  • Emerging Technologies in Wireless LANs Theory

Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) networks have become mainstream over the last few years. What started out as cable replacement for static desktops in indoor networks has been extended to fully mobile broadband applications involving moving vehicles, high-speed trains, and even airplanes.

  • EPC and 4G Packet Networks

The telecommunications industry is undoubtedly in a period of radical change with the advent of mobile broadband radio access and the rapid convergence of Internet and mobile services. Some of these changes have been enabled by a fundamental shift in the underlying technologies; mobile networks are now increasingly based on a pure Internet Protocol (IP) network architecture. Since the first edition of this book was published in 2009, a multitude of connected devices from eBook readers to smartphones and even Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technologies have all started to benefit from mobile broadband. The sea change over the last few years is only the beginning of a wave of new services that will fundamentally change our economy, our society, and even our environment. The evolution towards mobile broadband is one of the core underlying parts of this revolution and is the focus of this book.

  • Essentials+of+Short-Range+Wireless

Over the past ten years there has been a revolution in the devel- opment and acceptance of mobile products. In that period, cel- lular telephony and consumer electronics have moved from the realm of science fiction to everyday reality. Much of that revolu- tion is unremarkable – we use wireless, in its broadest sense, for TV remote controls, car keyfobs, travel tickets and credit card transactions every day. At the same time, we have increased the number of mobile devices that we carry around with us. However, in many cases the design and function of these and other static products are still constrained by the wired connections that they use to transfer and share data.

  • Femtocells+Technologies+and+Deployment

In cellular networks, it is estimated that 2 3 of calls and over 90% of data services occur indoors. However, some surveys show that many households and businesses experience a poor indoor coverage problem. It has been identified that poor coverage is the main reason for churn, which is very costly for operators in saturated markets. How to provide good indoor coverage cost effectively is thus a demanding challenge for operators.

  • Free+Space+Optical+Communication+System

Free Space Optical Communication (FSOC) is an effective alternative technology to meet the Next Generation Network (NGN) demands as well as highly secured (mili- tary) communications. FSOC includes various advantages like last mile access, easy installation, free of Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI)/Electro Magnetic Compatibil- ity (EMC) and license free access etc. In FSOC, the optical beam propagation in the turbulentatmosphereisseverelyaffectedbyvariousfactorssuspendedinthechannel, geographicallocationoftheinstallationsite, terraintypeandmeteorologicalchanges. Therefore a rigorous experimental study over a longer period becomes significant to analyze the quality and reliability of the FSOC channel and the maximum data rate that the system can operate since data transmission is completely season dependent.

  • Fundamentals+of+WiMAX+Understanding

Fundamentals of WiMAX was consciously written to appeal to a broad audience, and to be of value to anyone who is interested in the IEEE 802.16e standards or wireless broadband networks more generally. The book contains cutting-edge tutorials on the technical and theoretical under- pinnings to WiMAX that are not available anywhere else, while also providing high-level over- views that will be informative to the casual reader.

  • Fundamentals+of+Wireless+Communication

The writing of this book was prompted by two main developments in wireless communications in the past decade. First is the huge surge of research activities in physical-layer wireless communication theory. While this has been a subject of study since the 60’s, recent developments in the field, such as opportunistic and multi-input multi-output (MIMO) communication techniques, have brought completely new per- spectives on how to communicate over wireless channels.

  • Globalization+of+Mobile

This book is the outcome of the panel discussions held on the special event honor- ing first 50 PhD students of Prof. Ramjee Prasad. Several of his PhD students are today worldwide telecommunication leaders themselves. Over 60 post-docs, PhDs, colleagues and the scientific staff were present at the event to celebrate the research and development achievements in the field of mobile and wireless communication.

  • Handbook of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Throughout the course of my work in multihop mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) over the last several years, I reached the conclusion that mobility models and perfor- mance metrics need to be treated in detail in designing these networks that are the ultimatefrontierinwirelesscommunications. Awidevarietyofmobilitymodelscan be used by mobile nodes.

  • High-Frequency Oscillator Design

OSCILLATORS are key building blocks in integrated transceivers. In wired and wireless communication terminals, the receiver front-end selects, amplifies and converts the desired high-frequency signal to baseband. At baseband the signal can then be converted into the digital domain for further data processing and demodula- tion. The transmitter front-end converts an analog baseband signal to a suitable high- frequency signal that can be transmitted over the wired or wireless channel.
