  • Transmission Techniques for 4G Systems

Fourth Generation (4G) wireless communication systems aim to allow peak data rates in the range of 1 Gbps for nomadic access and 100 Mbps for vehicular mobil- ity. 4G aims to support current and emergent multimedia services, such as mobile TV, social networks and gaming, high-definition television and video telecon- ference, multimedia messaging service, using the All-over IP concept and with improved quality of service.

  • Wireless Networking Technology

Although the origins of radio frequency based wireless networking can be traced back to the University of Hawaii’s ALOHANET research project in the 1970s, the key events that led to wireless networking becoming one of the fastest growing technologies of the early 21st century have been the ratification of the IEEE 802.11 standard in 1997, and the subsequent development of interoperability certification by the Wi-Fi Alliance (formerly WECA).

  • Big+Data+Analytics+Strategies

This is a practical book, to be sure, but it is also a book about hope and posi- tive change. I am quite sincere. The delivery of electricity is deeply rooted in the principle of universal access; when clean, reliable energy is available it contributes to poverty alleviation, improved social conditions, and enhanced economic development. In the developed world, we know this to be true. The digital fabric of our lives is a testimony to the importance of energy security. Across the globe, we have seen the vital contributions that electrification has brought to the development of economies and an enhanced quality of life. Nonetheless, this supreme engineering achievement has languished, and we are deeply challenged.

  • Dynamic Security

This book is written for engineers involved in the operation, control, and planning of electric power systems. In addition, the book provides information and tools for researchers working in the fields of power system security and stability. The book consists of two volumes. The first volume provides traditional techniques for the stability analysis of large scale power systems. In addition, an overview of the main drivers and requirements for modernization of the traditional methods for online applications are discussed. The second volume provides techniques for online security assessment and corrective action studies. In addition, the impact of variable generation on the security of power systems is considered in the second volume. The first volume may be considered as a background builder while the second volume is intended for the coverage of edge techniques and methods for online dynamic security studies.

  • Electric+Distribution+Network+Planning

Electric distribution networks are critical parts of power delivery systems. In recent years, many new technologies and distributed energy resources have been inte- grated into these networks. To provide electricity at the possible lowest cost and at required quality, long-term planning is essential for these networks. In distribution planning, optimal location and size of necessary upgrades are determined to satisfy the demand and the technical requirements of the loads and to tackle uncertainties associated with load and distributed energy resources.

  • Guidelines+for+Electrical+Transmission+Line

Since the original publication of Manual 74 in 1991, and the preceding “Guidelines for Transmission Line Structural Loading” in 1984, the understanding of structural loadings on transmission line structures has broadened signifi cantly. However, improvements in computational capa- bility have enabled the transmission line engineer to more easily deter- mine structural loadings without properly understanding the parameters that affect these loads. Many seasoned professionals have expressed concern for the apparent lack of recent information on the topic of struc- tural loadings as new engineers enter this industry. The Committee on Electrical Transmission Structures is charged with the responsibility to report, evaluate, and provide loading requirements of transmission struc- tures. This task committee was therefore formed to update and revise the 1991 manual.

  • Power System Stability Modelling

Modern day large power systems are essentially dynamic systems with stringent requirements of high reliability for the continuous availability of electricity. Reliability is contingent on the power system retaining stable operation during steady-state operation and also following disturbances. The subject of power sys- tem stability has been studied for many decades. With new developments, and there have been many over the past couple of decades, new concerns and problems arise that need to be studied and analysed. The objective of this book is a step in that direction though not ignoring the conventional and well-established approaches.

  • Smart Grid Inspired Future Technologies

We are very pleased to introduce the proceedings of the First EAI International Conference on Smart Grid Inspired Future Technologies (SmartGIFT 2016). This was the first SmartGIFT conference, aiming to create a forum for researches, developers, and practitioners from both academia and industry to publish their key results and to disseminate state-of-the-art concepts and techniques in all aspects of smart grids. The 37 scientific participants had many fruitful discussions and exchanges that contributed to the success of the conference. Participants from 12 countries made the conference truly international in scope.

  • Smart+Grid

The term “ smart grid ” defi nes a self - healing network equipped with dynamic optimiza- tion techniques that use real - time measurements to minimize network losses, maintain voltage levels, increase reliability, and improve asset management. The operational data collected by the smart grid and its sub - systems will allow system operators to rapidly identify the best strategy to secure against attacks, vulnerability, and so on, caused by various contingencies. However, the smart grid fi rst depends upon identifying and researching key performance measures, designing and testing appropriate tools, and developing the proper education curriculum to equip current and future personnel with the knowledge and skills for deployment of this highly advanced system.
