The continuous progress in modern power device technology is increasingly supported by power-specific modeling methodologies and dedicated simulation tools. These enable the detailed analysis of operational principles on the the device and on the system level; in particular, they allow the designer to perform trade- off studies by investigating the operation of competing design variants in a very early stage of the development process. Furthermore, using predictive computer simulation makes it possible to analyze the device and system behavior not only under regularoperatingconditions, but also at the rim of the safe-operatingarea and beyond of it, where destructive processes occur that limit the lifetime of a power system.

For many years prior to the 1970s, engineers designed and built switch mode power supplies (SMPSs) using methods based largely on intuitive and exper- imentally derived techniques. In general, these power supplies were able to achieve their primary goal of high-efficiency power conversion; unfortu- nately, due to the lack of adequate theoretical analysis techniques, many of these power supplies only marginally met their desired performance require- ments. In many cases, they were considered to be unreliable.

This book introduces students to the theory and practice of control systems engineer- ing. The text emphasizes the practical application of the subject to the analysis and design of feedback systems. The study of control systems engineering is essential for students pursuing degrees in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, biomedical, or chemical engineering. Control systems are found in a broad range of applications within these disciplines, from aircraft and spacecraft to robots and process control systems.

This book is an outgrowth of a course developed at Stanford University over the past five years. It is suitable as a self-contained textbook for second-level undergraduates or for first-level graduate students in almost every field that employs quantitative methods. As prerequisites, it is assumed that the student may have had a first course in differential equations and a first course in linear algebra or matrix analysis. These two subjects, however, are reviewed in Chapters 2 and 3, insofar as they are required for later developments.

The countless technological advances of the twentieth century require that futureengineering educationemphasizebridging thegapbetweentheoryand the real world.Thisedition hasbeenprepared withparticular attentiontothe needs of undergraduates, especially those who seek a solid foundation in control theory aswellas an ability tobridgethe gapbetween control theory and itsreal- world applications. To help the reader achieve this goal, computer-aided design accuracy checks (CADAC) are used throughout the text to encourage good habits of computerliteracy. Each CADAC uses fundamentalconcepts to ensure the viability of a computer solution.

The main aim of this book is to present a unified, systematic description of basic and advanced problems, methods and algorithms of the modern con- trol theory considered as a foundation for the design of computer control and management systems. The scope of the book differs considerably from the topics of classical traditional control theory mainly oriented to the needs of automatic control of technical devices and technological proc- esses. Taking into account a variety of new applications, the book presents a compact and uniform description containing traditional analysis and op- timization problems for control systems as well as control problems with non-probabilistic models of uncertainty, problems of learning, intelligent, knowledge-based and operation systems – important for applications in the control of manufacturing processes, in the project management and in the control of computer systems.

This edition of Digital Image Processing is a major revision of the book. As in the 1977 and 1987 editions by Gonzalez and Wintz, and the 1992, 2002, and 2008 editions by Gonzalez and Woods, this sixth-generation edition was prepared with students and instructors in mind. The principal objectives of the book continue to be to provide an introduction to basic concepts and methodologies applicable to digital image processing, and to develop a foundation that can be used as the basis for further study and research in this field. To achieve these objectives, we focused again on material that we believe is fundamental and whose scope of application is not limited to the solution of specialized problems. The mathematical complexity of the book remains at a level well within the grasp of college seniors and first-year graduate students who have introductory preparation in mathematical analysis, vectors, matrices, probability, statistics, linear systems, and computer programming. The book website provides tutorials to support readers needing a review of this background material

HRVAS is a complete and self-contained heart rate variability analysis software (HRVAS) package. HRVAS offers several preprocessing options. HRVAS offers time-domeain, freq-domain, time-frequency, and nonlinear HRV analysis. All results can be exported to an Excel file. For processing many files HRVAS offers a bach processing feature. All settings/options can be saved to a .mat file and reloaded for future HRV analysis. Upon starting HRVAS all previously used settings/options are loaded.
