This document is intended to serve as an introduction to Wavelet processing through a set of Matlab experiments. These experiments will gives an overview of three fundamental tasks in signal and image processing : signal, denoising and compression. These scripts are selfs contents (needed additional Matlab functions can be downloaded while reading the lectures). Each one of these five lectures should take between 1h and 2h in order to tests the various features of the scripts. One should copy/paste the provided code into a file names e.g. tp1.m, and launch the script directly from Matlab comand line > tp1 . Some of the scripts contains "holes" that you should try to fill on your own. I also provide the complete correction of these lectures as a set of Matlab scripts, but you should try as much as possible to avoid using them.

Swfdec still is development software, but has also followed a rigid no-crashes-allowed policy. I believe it s stable enough now to be installed as a default plugin for people that can live with occasional crashes of their browser. But don t blame me if it does crash. In this demo, I use the EM algorithm with a Rauch-Tung-Striebel smoother and an M step, which I ve recently derived, to train a two-layer perceptron, so as to classify medical data (kindly provided by Steve Roberts and Will Penny from EE, Imperial College). The data and simulations are described in: Nando de Freitas, Mahesan Niranjan and Andrew Gee Nonlinear State Space Estimation with Neural Networks and the EM algorithm After downloading the file, type "tar -xf EMdemo.tar" to uncompress it. This creates the directory EMdemo containing the required m files. Go to this directory, load matlab5 and type "EMtremor". The figures will then show you the simulation results, including ROC curves, likelihood plots, decision boundaries with error bars, etc. WARNING: Do make sure that you monitor the log-likelihood and check that it is increasing. Due to numerical errors, it might show glitches for some data sets.

I built the Superlist control whilst developing an RSS reader called FeedGhost. Although there are plenty of commercial grouped list controls available I wanted to have total control over the code and of course its usability. Superlist supports drag drop column customisation, grouping as well as handling thousands of entries smoothly. It s also highly customisable if you want to change its look and feel. In this article I ll explain how to use and extend the control in a demo project. If you download the source, you can find demo project under the Tests/SuperListTest directory.

The control uses javascript to handle number formatting as you keep typing and does the validation as well. For one of our requirement, we needed a javascript based control that did formatting as the users kept typing. Google search only yielded script that did formatting on focus change events only. So I went about creating a new control myself.

I ve written some many years ago dynamic Huffman algorithm to compress and decompress data. It is mainly targeted to data with some symbols occuring more often than the rest (e.g. having some data file consisted of 3 different symbols and their total number of occurence in that file s1(1000), s2(200), s3(30) so the total length of file is 1000+200+30=1230 bytes, it will be encoded assigning one bit to s1 and 2 bits to s2, s3 so the encoded length will be 1*1000+2*(200+30)=1460 bits=182 bytes). In the best case the file consisted of just one symbol will be encoded with compression ratio as 1:8. Huffman coding is used in image compression, however in JPEG2000 arithmetic codec is imployed.

RS232.C was written to provide all of the basic functionality needed to employ serial I/O in any application written with Borland C language compilers. Some features are: 1. Ease of use. No assembly language or library files are used and a simple "#include" statement is all that is required to access all of the functions provided. 2. Both input and output are buffered and interrupt driven for efficiency. 3. Serial ports 1 - 4 are supported on PC, AT and PS/2 compatibles.Chained interrupts used on port 3 and 4 are allowed for so as not to interfere with devices such as a mouse or printer. Transmission speeds of 110 to 115200 baud are available. 4. Detection and utilization of hardware buffered UARTs (NS16550AF etc.) found in some machines is automatic. 5. Interrupt driven hardware and XON/XOFF flow control is provided for. 6. All source code is included. RS232.C can be used with all memory models.
