This program demonstrates some function approximation capabilities of a Radial Basis Function Network. The user supplies a set of training points which represent some "sample" points for some arbitrary curve. Next, the user specifies the number of equally spaced gaussian centers and the variance for the network. Using the training samples, the weights multiplying each of the gaussian basis functions arecalculated using the pseudo-inverse (yielding the minimum least-squares solution). The resulting network is then used to approximate the function between the given "sample" points.

Address book helps you look up your addresses from the system tray. It is quite useful in that way 慶ause it stays out of the way and is easily accessible when needed. Double clicking on any URL will start the default web browser and take you to that URL. Double clicking on the phone number will dial that number. Every column supports sorting and can be customized to your needs. Preview will display the notes associated with each record. This program can also import Comma Separated Values (*csv) text files of Outlook Express.

The initial planning and thinking about this book began during a discussion of SQL Server futures in July 2001. The discussion was with Rob Howard during a trip to Microsoft to discuss the first book I was working on at that time. After that, I stayed involved in what was happening in ADO.NET by going to the SQL Server Yukon Technical Preview in Bellevue, Washington, in February 2002 and by working with the ASP.NET and SQL Server teams at Microsoft since July 2003.
