With the advent of multimedia, digital signal processing (DSP) of sound has emerged from the shadow of bandwidth-limited speech processing. Today, the main appli- cations of audio DSP are high quality audio coding and the digital generation and manipulation of music signals. They share common research topics including percep- tual measurement techniques and analysis/synthesis methods. Smaller but nonetheless VERY important topics are hearing aids using signal processing technology and hardware architectures for digital signal processing of audio. In all these areas the last decade has seen a significant amount of application oriented research.

im2dat.m is used to convert images to data which can be plotted using the standard MATLAB functions. This is VERY handy if you have plots on hardcopy and you want to convert them into data that MATLAB can use. The scanned image can be analysed by this function and the output will allow you to perform any calculation/manipulations that MATLAB can perform, e.g. curve fitting.

I often need a simple function generator. Just to generate a certain frequency. After all the years I ve worked with electronics, I still haven t got me one. Even though I need it now and then, I just couldn t seem to justify the cost of one. So, standard solution - build one yourself. I designed a simple sinewave generator based on a Analog Devices AD9832 chip. It will generate a sinewave from 0.005 to 12 MHz in 0.005 Hz steps. That s pretty good, and definitely good enough for me ! But while waiting for the AD9832 chip to arrive, I came up with a VERY simple version of the DDS synth, using just the 2313 and a resistor network.
