This tutorial explains how to communicate with IO devices on the DE2 Board and how to deal with interrupts using C and the Altera Monitor Program. Two example programs are given that diplay the state of the toggle switches on the red LEDs. The fi rst program uses the programmed I/O approach and the second program uses interrupts.

The book consists of three sections. The first, foundations, provides a tutorial overview of the principles underlying data mining algorithms and their application. The presentation emphasizes intuition rather than rigor. The second section, data mining algorithms, shows how algorithms are constructed to solve specific problems in a principled manner. Normally a list view is updated by a user directly by selecting a list view item and then editing or deleting it. New items are usually added at the bottom of the list. This works fine since the user knows which items have been changed or deleted and where the new items will pop up. A drawback of it is that, if the list is sorted, then new items will not be displayed in a sorted way, instead they will be listed in the order of being created.

The code for this article was written for version 1.0 of the Active Template Library (ATL). The current version of the code (in SieveATL) was built with Visual C++ 6.0 and the ATL provided with that compiler. It may be slightly different than the code shown in the article. The directory SieveMFC contains an MFC version of a component equivalent to the ATL version discussed in the article. It was built with version 5 of the C++ compiler and the MFC version provided with it. The code discussed in the article was later adapted for Hardcore Visual Basic, Second Edition.
