In this paper, we describe the development of a rapidly reconfigurable system in which the users’ tacit knowledge and requirements are elicited via a process of Interactive Evolution, finding the image processing parameters to achieve the required goals without any need for specialised knowledge of the machine vision system. We show that the resulting segmentation can be quickly and easily evolved from scratch, and achieves detection rates comparable to those of a hand-tuned system on a hot-rolled steel defect recognition problem.

observable distribution grid are investigated. A distribution grid is observable if the state of the grid can be fully determined. For the simulations, the modified 34-bus IEEE test feeder is used. The measurements needed for the state estimation are generated by the ladder iterative technique. Two methods for the state estimation are analyzed: Weighted Least Squares and Extended Kalman Filter. Both estimators try to find the most probable state based on the available measurements. The result is that the Kalman filter mostly needs less iterations and calculation time. The disadvantage of the Kalman filter is that it needs some foreknowlegde about the state.

The concept of the Altera Nios II embedded processor implementation inside Field Programmable Gate Array [FPGA] of the CCD camera for the “Pi of the Sky” experiment is presented. The digital board of the CCD camera, its most important components, current implementation of firmware [VHDL] inside the FPGA and the role of external 8051 microcontroller is briefly described. The main goal of the presented work is to get rid of the external microcontroller and to design new system with Nios II processor built inside FPGA chip. Constraints for implementing the design into the existing camera boards are discussed. New possibilities offered by a larger FPGA for next generation of cameras are considered.

Netcat for NT is the tcp/ip "Swiss Army knife" that never made it into any of the resource kits. It has proved to be an extremely versatile tool on the unix platform. So why should NT always be unix s poor cousin when it comes to tcp/ip testing and exploration? The existence of numerous imaging modalities makes it possible to present different data present in different modalities together thus forming multimodal images. Component images forming multimodal images should be aligned, or registered so that all the data, coming from the different modalities, are displayed in proper locations. The term image registration is most commonly used to denote the process of alignment of images , that is of transforming them to the common coordinate system. This is done by optimizing a similarity measure between the two images. A widely used measure is Mutual Information (MI). This method requires estimating joint histogram of the two images. Experiments are presented that demonstrate the approach. The technique is intensity-based rather than feature-based. As a comparative assessment the performance based on normalized mutual information and cross correlation as metric have also been presented.
