This DEMO of CONTACT PLUS is a working demo, not
simply a slide show. Thus you have the opportunity
to view all screens and reports at your leisure.
Since CONTACT PLUS is very comprehensive, expect to
spend an hour or so to familiarize yourself with all
the functions and features available. Press the F1
(help key) often.
Take your time with the demo and become familiar with
the user interface. Enter some of your own contacts
into the database to get a feel of how the system
will best suit your needs.
You can have up to 10 contacts in the demo database.
The demo comes with pre-entered demo contacts.
Delete these and add your own contacts. Other than
the record limit, you are running the complete
system.
If you order CONTACT PLUS, you will also receive four
other programs: CFIX - recovers broken database
files, CONCAL - generates a monthly calendar for ALL
contacts in your database sorted by tickler date,
IMPORT - an ASCII import program (allowing
importation of contacts from other programs or
mainframes), and CHECK - a program that checks for
appointments within a number of days ... good to
place in your autoexec.bat file so that you can be
reminded about your appointments everytime you turn
on the computer.
CONTACT PLUS is a interactive filing system that
keeps track of your important business contacts by
providing a personal detailed calendar for each of
your important contacts. A history of phone calls,
correspondence, and notes are kept for each contact
in an easy to use format.
CONTACT PLUS functions as a electronic rolodex, keeps
track of appointments, tickler dates, phone calls
(both outgoing and incoming), form letters, allows
data search, includes an autodialer, and allows you
to classify your contacts in a variety of ways using
24 customizable categories.
CONTACT PLUS also acts as a mail list manager. You
can create customized form letters and send them out
to contacts of your choosing.
CONTACT PLUS works best on hard disk equipped
systems. Since CONTACT PLUS keeps such comprehensive
records, each contact in the database consumes about
4K of disk space. Thus, roughly 80 contacts may be
stored on a single 360 K floppy diskette.
CONTACT PLUS is memory conservative as it will run
with roughly 200K of available RAM memory. A Hayes
compatible modem is necessary if you plan on using
the autodial feature.
CONTACT PLUS locates your important contacts
quickly. By last name, company name or by one of the
two user defined fields you specify. When searching
for a particular contact, you may enter the first few
characters of the last name, company name or user
defined field.
You have instant access to your word processor while
viewing your contacts. Press the F6 key to access
your word processor. A template file will be used to
generate the salutation and starting text of the
letter you wish to enter. CONTACT PLUS works
comfortably with native word processing documents
using Word Perfect (tm). Other popular word
processors may be accessed using the non-document
mode also known both as TEXT or ASCII files.
Each contact can be placed in up to 24 user
selectable categories. Categories are useful to
classify your contacts.
Three user defined DATE fields are provided with each
contact; typical uses could be first, last and next
contact dates, proposal dates, demo dates, or birth
dates.
Two user defined index fields are also available for
customization. Typical uses could be "SALESPERSON",
"TERRITORY", "PRODUCT", or "SIC CODE". The fields
are index fields meaning that you can sort and recall
your contacts based on the fields you choose.
Separate databases are available. Vendor contacts
can be kept in one database and client contacts in
another. The possibilities are solely up to you and
limited only by disk space.
Contact has an AUTODIAL feature that will work with
Hayes compatible modems. While in the contact menu
press F3 or F4 to dial one of two phone numbers.
CONTACT PLUS will start up the dial sequence and you
can simply pick up the phone when someone answers the
line.
CONTACT PLUS will also record your incoming calls.
Simply call up the record of the phone call by
entering the first few characters of the last name,
then press F9 from the CONTACT MENU and the incoming
call will be logged.
Set up the DOS variable "PLOG" to log all the calls
to an output file in a tabular format. By setting up
the variable : "SET PLOG=phone.hst" at DOS, all
calls will be stored in the file "phone.hst".
You can use your printer manual to set up different
fonts: boldface, italics, compressed print for your
particular printer.
The ESC and TAB key is used to exit menus and stop
reports at any time. This indicates to CONTACT PLUS
that you are finished looking at the display on the
screen. This key is used GLOBALLY through the system
as an escape hatch. It is ALWAYS available.
The LEFT ARROW Key will move left one field while you
are updating a record.
The RIGHT ARROW Key will move right one field while
you are updating a record.
The UP ARROW Key is used to move up one field if you
are in an update mode or the menu options are
showing. If you are in the contact menu it will move
to the prior record.
The DOWN ARROW Key is used to move down one field if
you are in an update mode or the menu options are
showing. If you are in the contact menu it will move
to the next record.
The F2 Key (FUNCTION 2) is used to make a copy of the
screen. Each time F2 is pressed, the current screen
is appended to the file "screen.sav" in the current
directory. This has the advantage over pressing
SHIFT PRTSCRN, in that screens are paginated
correctly.
The F5 Key (DOS) will allow you to escape to DOS to
run a different program, perhaps a spreadsheet or a
DOS program. You may run any program other than DOS
directly from the F5 key by setting the COMMAND
parameter in the SYSTEM PARAMETER MENU. Details are
presented in the documentation. The F5 key can be
pressed at any time.
The F6 Key (WP) will invoke your personal word
processing system and will fill in fields from a
template file, thus relieving you of having to enter
the name, address, city, etc. It will be filled in
automatically! Plus, you do not have to learn a new
word processor. You can use the one you are
accustomed with.
The F9 Key (FUNCTION 9) will record an incoming call
while in the CONTACT MENU for the displayed contact.

Enter 'y' to save the changed information on this
page. Enter 'n' to discard the changes.

Use the arrow keys to select a pre-existing database
in the current directory. The size in bytes and date
of the main data file "contact.dt" is displayed.
The old database will be closed properly and the new
database will become active.

Enter the name of a new database. It must not
already exist. Use up to 8 characters.
Example:
To create a customer database, call it
"CUST" (exclude the quotes).
The following data files will be created:
CUST.hdr, CUST.dt, CUST.nx0, CUST.nx1 and
CUST.nx2 (these files comprise a database)
This option must be run before trying to copy records
from one database to another.
@@
The database specified could not be open. Either the
database has been corrupt in which case the CFIX
(database recovery) command must be run, or the
database doesn't exist in the current directory.
@@
Enter "l" for last name, "c" for company name, "1"
for the first user defined field, and "2" for the
second user defined field.
The index will be changed so that you will be able to
recall the contacts by last name, company name or one
of the two user defined fields.
After selecting the index you may abbreviate the name
when searching for a contact, for example:
To search for "Victory Oil", set the index to "c" for
COMPANY and enter "vi" at the prompt.
To search for "Sam Smith", set the index to "l" (last
name) and enter "Sm" at the prompt. CONTACT PLUS will
place you at the first match of "Smith" in the
database. "SM", "Sm" and "sm" are identical.
CONTACT PLUS doesn't pay attention to upper or lower
case when searching.
@@
The form file could not be located in the current
directory. CONTACT PLUS is looking for one of the
following file names in the current directory:
FORM CORRESPONDING FILENAME
------ ----------------------
Form 1 contact.1
Form 2 contact.2
Form 3 contact.3
Form 4 contact.4
Form 5 contact.5
Form 6 contact.6
Form 7 contact.7
Form 8 contact.8
Form 9 contact.9
Mailing Label contact.lbl
These must be ASCII files and must be in the current
directory. CONTACT PLUS verifies that the file is
ASCII before proceeding.
If using a different database, say "BUSINESS", the
form names would be:
business.1 business.6
business.2 business.7
business.3 business.8
business.4 business.9
business.5 business.lbl
