First of all, the Applet-phone is a SIP User-Agent with audio and text messaging capabilities. But i s also embedded in an applet where you can use it as usual if your firewall allow you to use the UDP transport. If not, you can use TCP to carry your voice in a voice messaging fashion. Your voice is recorded and encoded locally then sent as a message, decoded and played back by your peer. voice messaging allow you to go through any firewall, so that you can continue to chat and talk with your friends from an applet !

This project aim was to build wireless software modem for data communication between two computers using an acoustic interface in the voice frequency range (20Hz– 20,000Hz). The transmitting antenna is a speaker (frequency response of: 90Hz – 20,000Hz) and the receiving antenna is a microphone (frequency response of: 100Hz – 16,000Hz). The test files used as information files were text files. This goal was attained both in an incoherent scheme and in a coherent scheme. Build under Matlab code, our modem uses OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) modulation, synchronization by LMS sequence, channel estimation (no equalizer) via pilot tones. The symbols are either PSK or ASK for a constellation size of 2 or 4. To optimize the probability of error, these symbols were mapped using Gray mapping. Report

Abstract-The effect of the companding process on QAM signals has been under investigation for the past several years. The compander, included in the PCM telephone network to improve voice performance, has an unusual affect on digital QAM data signals which are transmitted over the same channel. The quantization noise, generated by the companding process which is multiplicative (and asymmetric), degrades the detectability performance of the outermost points of the QAM constellation more than that of the inner points.
