We address the problem of blind carrier frequency-offset (CFO) estimation in quadrature amplitude modulation, phase-shift keying, and pulse amplitude modulation communications systems.We study the performance of a standard CFO estimate, which consists of first raising the received signal to the Mth power, where M is an integer depending on the type and size of the symbol constellation, and then applying the nonlinear least squares (NLLS) estimation approach. At low signal-to noise ratio (SNR), the NLLS method fails to provide an accurate CFO estimate because of the presence of outliers. In this letter, we derive an approximate closed-form expression for the outlier probability. This enables us to predict the mean-square error (MSE) on CFO estimation for all SNR values. For a given SNR, the new Results also give insight into the minimum number of samples required in the CFO estimation procedure, in order to ensure that the MSE on estimation is not significantly affected by the outliers.

In recent years large scientific interest has been devoted to joint data decoding and parameter estimation techniques. In this paper, iterative turbo decoding joint to channel frequency and phase estimation is proposed. The phase and frequency estimator is embedded into the structure of the turbo decoder itself, taking into consideration both turbo interleaving and puncturing. Results show that the proposed technique outperforms conventional approaches both in terms of detection capabilities and implementation complexity.

We propose a novel approach for head tracking, which combines particle filters with Isomap. The particle filter works on the low-dimensional embedding of training images. It indexes into the Isomap with its state variables to find the closest template for each particle. The most weighted particle approximates the location of head. We develop a synthetic video sequence to test our technique. The Results we get show that the tracker tracks the head which changes position, poses and lighting conditions.

We present a particle filter construction for a system that exhibits time-scale separation. The separation of time-scales allows two simplifications that we exploit: i) The use of the averaging principle for the dimensional reduction of the system needed to solve for each particle and ii) the factorization of the transition probability which allows the Rao-Blackwellization of the filtering step. Both simplifications can be implemented using the coarse projective integration framework. The resulting particle filter is faster and has smaller variance than the particle filter based on the original system. The convergence of the new particle filter to the analytical filter for the original system is proved and some numerical Results are provided.

In this paper, a new family of Cassinian wave-guides is proposed, simulating and calculation are finished with CST Microwave Studio that based on Finite Integral Technique (FIT), and some Results are given. Electromagnetic field mode type of it is TE, electromagnetic field is stronger near neck region, and some resonance frequencies appear. The new Cassinian curve wave-guides will possess higher power than ones of the rectangular and elliptic wave-guides because the height at the position where maximal electric field occurs is smaller.

The problem of image registration subsumes a number of problems and techniques in multiframe image analysis, including the computation of optic flow (general pixel-based motion), stereo correspondence, structure from motion, and feature tracking. We present a new registration algorithm based on spline representations of the displacement field which can be specialized to solve all of the above mentioned problems. In particular, we show how to compute local flow, global (parametric) flow, rigid flow resulting from camera egomotion, and multiframe versions of the above problems. Using a spline-based description of the flow removes the need for overlapping correlation windows, and produces an explicit measure of the correlation between adjacent flow estimates. We demonstrate our algorithm on multiframe image registration and the recovery of 3D projective scene geometry. We also provide Results on a number of standard motion sequences.

A new cable fault location method based on wavelet reconstruction is proposed. In this method the difference between the currents of faulty phase and sound phase under the high voltage pulse excitation is used as the measured signal and is decomposed in multi-scale by wavelet transform, then reconstructed in single scale. Comparing with traditional fault location method by travelling wave, the presented method will not be interfered by the reflected wave from the branch joint of cables or from other positions where the impedances are not matched and not be influenced by fault types, otherwise, the reflected waves can be recognized even the faulty position is near to the measuring terminal, at the same time, the influence of the wave speed uncertainty can be reduced. The correctness of the proposed method is proved by simulation Results.
