These procedures were designed with the utmost concern for software portability <BR>[4] [<A HREF="node65.html#guide_2"><A NAME=tex2html35 HREF="../Guide2/welcome.html">MODULEF User Guide - 2</A></A>].<P>The approach used in building the library of procedures is a combination of abstract approach and modular programming. By implementing a top-down design, mathematical formulations are split into  successive operators.Many of these operators are already present in the MODULEF library and new mathematical operators are incorporatedinto the library as computational modules. In this manner the solutions of new problems can easily be incorporated.<P>A module is a set of procedures performing one logical process or calculation step. The modules  communicate witheach other through data structures (D.S.), where a data structure [<A HREF="node65.html#guide_2"><A NAME=tex2html35 HREF="../Guide2/welcome.html">MODULEF User Guide - 2</A></A>] is a set of arrays containing the result corresponding to a computational step. Therefore, a module transforms an input data structure (I.D.S.) intoan output data structure (O.D.S.).
