改后稿
Dear Colleagues:
I am Head of the Department of International Finance in the School of Ec
onomics at the Beijing University, perhaps the most prestigious university i
n China, and I am writing to recommend Mr. Hui Dushu, one of my favorite stu
dents, for acceptance into your Master's program.
I got to know him personally last semester when he was taking the course
of Special Topics on International Finance that I was teaching. In the clas
s, he showed great interest in economics. He studied conscientiously and oft
en talked with me after the class about the questions that he had come acros
s in his readings. Once when we talked about the country's ongoing restructu
ring of its tax system, he delved into the increasing cost of tax evasion. W
e then discussed several methods of calculating the cost. As we talked, I fo
und that he was very skilled in expressing his ideas through diagrammatic cu
rves and mathematics. Recognizing that the government's attitudes to acts of
tax evasion will affect not only people's behavior but also the cost of lev
ying taxes, he saw possible solutions to the problem in the Game Theory. I e
ncouraged him to pursue this idea. He said he didn't know much about the Gam
e Theory and proceeded to borrow some essays by Nash from me. He thus left m
e with a deep impression.
Studying with conscientiousness, Mr. Hui often came up with creative ide
as. Unlike some other students, he studied not to just pass the exams but to
really improve his knowledge and expertise. He stands out among his fellow
classmates with an unmistakable thirst for genuine understanding of the coun
try's economic realities and problems. That has won him appreciation from no
t just me but my colleagues as well. But he did do well in exams too. In the
final exam of last semester, he got a high score of 90 for my course.
He often talks with me about his ideal to become an economist. To help q
uench his thirst for knowledge, I have lent many of my own books to him and
tutored him in his self-study program. He has been much more engrossed in do
ing independent research than preparing for exams, but his grades still keep
him ranked among the top 25% of his class. I think he is a very intelligent
young fellow.
Mr. Hui has a good command of the English language. As he is well acquai
nted with me, he has often helped me in my own research by translating some
English essays that I am too busy to translate. His translations are usually
quite good. His oral English is good too. Compared with other Chinese stude
nts who may be applying to your program, I think Mr. Hui should be considere
d more favorably.
Well grounded in the theories of economics and the methodologies of econ
omic research, and proficient in English, Mr. Hui should make an outstanding
student in graduate studies. I have not seen many Chinese students who are
so intent on achieving an academic career in economics. If you accept him, y
ou will find that his drive and sense of purpose very contagious among the s
tudents. In view of all that I know of him, I strongly recommend him. If you
want to know more about him, please don't hesitate to contact with me.
Sincerely,

推荐信原稿
Dear Sir or Madam:
As the Chair of the Department of International Finance, I'm pleased to
recommend Mr. Hui, my favorite student, to your esteemed university.
I got to know him in my class of Special Topics on International Finance
last term. He has great interest in Economics and thirst for knowledge abou
t it. He studied in my class conscientiously and often talked with me about
the questions that he met in reading and study. Once, we talked about the de
sign of the tax system. He said that since people always wanted to evade tax
, the increasing cost that caused by it was an important problem. I talked w
ith him several methods of how to account the cost caused by evading the tax
and found that he was very skilled in using diagrammatic curve and mathemat
ics. Finally, he said that the reaction of government to the action of evadi
ng tax of people will affect the behavior of people and the cost of levying
taxes. He said maybe the solution of the problem would exert the Game Theory
. I encouraged him this idea. He said he didn't know much about Game Theory
and borrowed me some essays about it written by Nash.. Mr. Hui always studie
d with this serious attitude and often pointed out some creative ideas. His
study is to improve his knowledge about Economics, not for the exam. This is
his distinction from others and I appreciate him for it. In the end of last
term, he got a high score of 90 in the exam. But most of the exams are dogm
atic, so he hasn't got the same high scores in them.
He often talk with me about his ideal to be a economist. So I often do s
ome special instructions to him and lend many books about economics to him.
he spend a lot of time on them and seldom prepare for the exams. Though his
keeps average score top 25% in his class. I think he is very clever.@ When I
was well aquatinted with him, he often do some favor to me. Because his Eng
lish is good, I often let him help me to translate some English essays when
I am busy. He always do well. His oral English is good too, so I think he wi
ll be more competitive than other Chinese students to apply to your universi
ty.
He has a strong ability to organize people and is ready to help people.
His classmates all like him and elected him as the person responsible for sp
orts activities. He organized his classmates to take part in the sports meet
ing of Peking University every year. He also organized some basketball and f
ootball games that were took part in by boys and girls both in the Departmen
t of International Finance. It made his classmates a rich life in the Univer
sity.
Mr. Hui is a very active student and he always keeps high spirit. I thin
k he has enough things in him to go to America to study Economics with his p
erfect theory base, hardworking habit and fluent English. I hope you will ac
cept him. If you want to know more information about him, don't hesitate to
contact with me.
Sincerely,
