月日，日军向马占山发出下野通告，要求马占山在日夜时之前答复，可是通告刚刚发出一个小时，在日下午时，日军就开始了对马占山三间房阵地的进攻。<br />
<br />
第一次属于试探性进攻，进攻部队由日军五六百名骑兵组成，进攻方向是乌诺头、张花园等处的马占山部的骑兵第一旅吴松林部，吴旅阵地其实只有一个团即为骑兵三团。面对进攻，吴旅奋起反击，激战分钟，日军退却。<br />
<br />
午后时，日军大部向马占山三间房阵地左、中、右三面同时发起猛攻，日军长谷旅团攻左翼，森连满铁守备队攻右翼，数架飞机在上空投弹助攻。<br />
<br />
马占山部前线总指挥苑崇谷沉着应战，激战小时，三块阵地枪炮声响成一片，终于在晚时左右击退日军进攻。<br />
<br />
日军退却后改为炮击，炮击整整持续了两个小时，马占山部同样予以炮火还击。<br />
<br />
晚时，战斗结束，日军第一天的进攻没有占到一点便宜。<br />
<br />
日夜，马占山急令骑兵第二旅旅长程志远带领两团骑兵从满洲里、扎兰诺尔驻扎地开赴昂昂溪待命，以便随时投入战斗。<br />
<br />
日拂晓时分，日军长谷部第三旅团和步兵第十六联队、第二十九联队以及骑兵第二中队在飞机、大炮的掩护下，向马占山新立屯阵地发动强大攻势。<br />
<br />
是役日军飞机密集投弹，将马占山阵地几次夷为平地，马占山部官兵冒着炮火一次又一次重新修筑阵地，伤亡惨重，激战竞日，阵地依然掌握在马部手中。<br />
<br />
其后，日军骑兵骚扰马占山汤池、蘑菇溪间地骑兵防线，并用重炮密集轰炸。<br />
<br />
大兴方面地战斗更加激烈，并有日军数量坦克助战，将近中午时分，阵线几乎不保，但在这时，骑兵第二旅程旅的涂全胜骑兵团赶到战场，整团骑兵在团长涂全胜地带领下向日军纵深猛冲，这一举动使守军士气大振，一时间守军冲出战壕转守为攻。<br />

中日军队绞杀在一起。下午，萨力布骑兵团赶到增援投入战场，蘑菇溪方面在击退日军进攻以后调卫队团两个营也向大兴增援过来，三间房阵地也派出步一旅两个营的官兵在团长孙鸿裕的带领下紧急增援过来，战场形势立时逆转。<br />

全线与日军整整厮杀一天，两方伤亡都很大，晚上，日军退却。<br />

日凌晨点，马占山乘载重车辆带参谋和卫兵亲往前线督战。<br />
<br />
因为在几个小时前，也就是日夜，当时驻黑龙江省日本领事清水突然间从大使馆撤退，马占山前往交涉，对其说道：<br />
<br />
“领事离黑，应按外交惯例签字离去。”<br />
<br />
清水回答他道：“此行是本人私事，其他一概不知，故未照办。”<br />
<br />
然后将领事管内的日本人一个不剩地带走。马占山从这一事件判断出日军会在近日大举进攻省垣，前线战事一定更加激烈，于是命令驻守绥化一带的保安大队王克镇部人编为一个独立团，即刻开往大兴阵地。这已经是马占山手里最后一点能够使用的兵力了。<br />

此时洮昂溪战事稍停，中日两边都忙于调兵遣将。<br />
<br />
日军从郑家屯、长春、凤凰营等地调集大批日军开往江桥，此时日军兵力已达余人，飞机十多架，大炮上百门，并有坦克多辆。<br />
<br />
而马占山阵地由于连日苦战，不断减员，到这时满打满算也就剩下了多人，而且人困马乏，缺枪少弹，连吃饭都保证不了。<br />
<br />
双方力量对比悬殊，马占山部几乎快到了山穷水尽的地步。是以这一天中午日军用坦克袭扰阵地时，马部没有还击，并且稍作退让。<br />
<br />
这时候的马占山，几乎已经到了山穷水尽的地步。<br />
<br />
“再向奉天方面郑司令长官求援！”<br />
<br />
马占山几乎是嘶声力竭地说道：“告诉郑司令长官，我部已然无法支撑，已然无法支撑，请求郑司令长官给予援助，给予援助！”<br />
