of the Quartus(R) II Programmer and SignalTap II Logic Analyzer 
function correctly, there may be problems that we haven't 
encountered. If you have a question or problem that is not

This readme.txt file for the Quartus II Programmer and 
SignalTap II Logic Analyzer version 5.1 for PCs includes 
information that was not incorporated into the printed 
documentation or online Help. This file contains the following 
sections:

o  Installation & Operating Requirements
o  Memory & Disk Space Requirements
o  Installing the Software

For information about known issues and workarounds, timing model
status, device support status, and supported versions of other
EDA tools, please refer to the Quartus II Software Release Notes,
available in the Literature section of the Altera Web Site.


Installation & Operating Requirements
=====================================

Altera recommends the following system configuration:

-  Pentium II 400 with 512-MB system memory (faster systems give
   better software performance)
-  SVGA monitor
-  CD-ROM drive
-  One or more of the following I/O ports:
   -  USB port (if you are using Windows XP or Windows 2000) for 
      USB-Blaster(TM) or MasterBlaster(TM) communications cables, 
      or for APU programming unit
   -  Parallel port for ByteBlasterMV(TM) or ByteBlaster(TM) II 
      download cables
   -  Serial port for MasterBlaster communications cable
-  TCP/IP networking protocol installed
-  Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later,
   or Windows XP


Memory & Disk Space Requirements
================================

Installation of the Quartus II Programmer and SignalTap II 
Logic Analyzer version 5.1 requires approximately 30 MB of 
available disk space on the drive or partition where you are 
installing the Quartus II Programmer and SignalTap II Logic 
Analyzer. 

The Quartus II Programmer requires approximately 80 MB of free 
memory (RAM) when operating.


Installing the Software
=======================

To install the Quartus II Programmer, follow these steps:

1. Create a directory on your hard disk to store the Quartus II
   Programmer and SignalTap II Logic Analyzer. The default 
   location is c:\qprogrammer.
2. Run the quartusii_programmer_signaltap.exe by double-clicking 
   on the file name in the Windows Explorer.
3. The installation program guides you through the installation 
   process. You should specify the directory you created in 
   Step 1 as the installation directory. Altera recommends that 
   you install the Quartus II Programmer and SignalTap II Logic 
   Analyzer software in a different directory from any other 
   version of the Quartus II software.
4. When installation is complete, you can read this 
   Quartus II 5.1 Programmer and SignalTap II Logic Analyzer 
   programmer_readme.txt file by double-clicking on the file name 
   in the Windows Explorer.
