Welcome to the 1.9s Wiikey Firmware Autoprogrammer.
This autoprogrammer is for use with the ATMEGA8L chips and the SP12 (Chiip) programmer. With this combination, you can make your very own Wiikey chips for about 2 bucks each. These chips are upgradable with the official Wiikey upgrade discs, and are configurable with the official Wiikey configuration Discs.
Enclosed with this package is the Wiikey pinout diagram and the Chiip programmer diagram.
To flash the firmware to the chip, follow these steps.
1 - Make sure your printer port is set to ECP/EPP in Bios
2 - Run install_giveio.bat
3 - run program.bat
The program bat runs in two stages. 1st stage will flash the main firmware to the chip. You will get an error as such which is normal. This error is being caused by the lock fuse, but it is normal... This will be the last text displayed :
NORMAL-
----------------------------------------------------------
avrdude: verifying ...
avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0000
0xcf != 0x0f
avrdude: verification error; content mismatch
avrdude: safemode: Fuses OK
avrdude done. Thank you.
----------------------------------------------------------
ABNORMAL-
----------------------------------------------------------
avrdude: safemode: lfuse changed! Was e4, and is now ff
Would you like this fuse to be changed back? [y/n]
----------------------------------------------------------
Now, if it does not flash properly and you get the message above, just keep trying to flash it. Even my programmer does not work 100% and I have no idea why... Sometimes it takes 5-10 attempts before it flashes properly... So don't give up if it does not work the first time... Keep trying until it works. You can also try unloading a bunch of programs in windows, I noticed the more crap I have running in the background, the less likely I am to have a successful flash.
Now, if it flashed okay, the 2nd stage of the flashing will be to set your region. Pretty self explanitory this part... This is writing to the EEPROM on the chip.
If all went well, you now have a fully functional Wiikey chip!
Special thanks to:
LittleJonny (Team Symbiote) for originally dumping the Wiikey firmware, which is what makes it possible for me to dump it, since there is no encryption to worry about anymore :) I'm not skilled enough to crack it myself :)
Phonymike (Team Symbiote) for figuring out the proper fuses to use in order to make the Wiikey updateable.
OpenWii - For the Autoprogrammer Template which I use for this autoprogrammer.
Chiip - For their kick ass diagram for building an SP12 Programmer
And of course, last but not least, the Wiikey Team... Even though I guarantee they hate me for doing this all the time, but they spit out great code!
If you have any questions or comments - You can find me at Wiinewz.com and I would be happy to answer any questions!
Enjoy!
