Rule:--Sid:3651--Summary:This event is generated when an attempt is made to exploit a bufferoverflow condition in the CVS daemon via "cvs annotate".--Impact:Denial of Service on the files targeted by the exploit, code executionmay be possible.--Detailed Information:CVS is the Concurrent Versions System, commonly used to help managesoftware development.This rule detects attempts to exploit a buffer overflow condition inthe CVS daemon using the "annotate" command. A user with branchingprivileges needs to make a long revision string for a filename then usethe cvs annotate command on that filename for the overflow to occur.--Affected Systems:	CVS 1.11.19 and prior	CVS 1.12.11 and prior	--Attack Scenarios:A user creates a revision string of 70 characters or more for aparticular file. The user then issues the command "cvs annotate <file>"and the denial of service results for that file.--Ease of Attack:Simple if the conditions are met. Difficult to execute code.--False Positives:None known.--False Negatives:None known.--Corrective Action:Disable the CVS daemon in the file /etc/inetd.conf.
