Problem Kernel versions <= 2.6.19 do not ignore HUAWEI E220 fake volume and try to automount this pseudo SCSI CD-ROM (with windows drivers) making the built-in usb-terminal not accessible. At the same time, usbserial.ko does not know, that it is responsible for E220 modem and it fails to assign itself to the device. Files included in this package will help you avoid most of the problems. Even if you use kernel > 2.6.19, take a look at the PPP configuration files. 2. Solution Solutions are kernel specific. openSUSE 10.2 (problem resolved) kernel 2.6.18 SUSE Linux 10.1 (problem resolved) 2.6.16 Fedora Core 5 (problem resolved) 2.6.15 Ubuntu 6.06 (problem resolved) 2.6.15 Ubuntu 7.04 (problem resolved) 2.6.20 GENTOO Linux 2.6.20.1 (no problems) 2.6.20 Configuration files will very likely work on other systems running udev. 3. Configuration This package contains a wvdial-hauwei.conf configuration file for wvdial, available by default in *SUSE and Red Hat, as well as config dial-up configuration files for pppd. /etc/wvdial-huawei.conf /etc/ppp/peers/huawei-e220 /etc/chatscripts/huawei-e220.chat 4. Moreover... _________________ * Plug-and-play * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you want to make a connection right after the modem is plugged in, with this package, you can create a /root/.huawei-config file with the following content: --- 8< --- wvdial --config /etc/wvdial-huawei.conf --- >8 --- or if you prefer --- 8< --- pppd call huawei-e220 --- >8 --- NOTE: If you don't install the udev rule, the .huawei-config will not work. This file will be called by /lib/udev/huawei-mobile.sh ______________ * DNS issues * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If the blue light on the modem is on but you still get no internet access, it's very likely a DNS problem. Take a look at your /etc/resolv.conf file. In some distributions it's not updated by ip-up script. 5. Provider specific configuration For Provider specific configuration options and possible problems check PROVIDERS file in the same directory. 6. NEEDINFO If you are successful after trying out this package, or you made it work your way (other than these included here) I will be happy to hear from you. If you are unsuccessful, however, I WILL LOVE to hear from you. Just let me know (put a comment on the website, drop me an e-mail or anything) and I come back to you as soon as I test the issue.
