Global Mapper ASCII to STK MTO object converter
Version 1.0 by Ed Mackey, 11/16/2005
Install: None, just run it
Description:
This is a Windows 2000/XP utility that will convert an ASCII vector file
exported from Global Mapper to an STK 7 MTO object that can be imported
into an STK Scenario. Line widths, colors, and even certain line styles
are preserved.
Usage:
Run it, and it will ask for input and output filenames. Be certain that
the output name you pick is valid for an STK object (no spaces or
punctuation other than the underscore). The user interface will also
allow you to enter an altitude offset, and provide an option to replace
all the colors in the file.
Line styles:
Before running this converter, you may wish to search-and-replace the
line styles in your ASCII file to something that STK can handle.
The known STK line styles are as follows:
Solid
Dashed
Dotted
Dot
Long
SDash
MDash
LDash
SDashDot
MDashDot
LDashDot
MSDash
LSDash
LMDash
LMSDash
The GM2MTO converter understands the above labels and will convert them
to the correct settings in STK.
For example, let's say you have some "Railroad" lines in your .xyz vector
ASCII file from Global Mapper. "Railroad" is not a line style that STK
knows. Load your .xyz vector file into a text editor, and look for lines
like this:
LINE_STYLE=Railroad
You would search-and-replace these lines with an STK line style, such as:
LINE_STYLE=Dashed
Once this is done, run the GM2MTO converter on the modified file, and the
line styles will import correctly into STK.
If you don't need fancy line styles, you may skip this step, and your
lines should come through as normal "Solid" lines.
Any questions, send an email to support@agi.com, and they'll come find me.
