If you don't know what to start from, press "Open file..." button on the toolbar (or File | Open file... menu item), and browse for your password-protected file.
You can save all program settings in a Project file. Click "Save Project" to do that.
For strong passwords, the dictionary attack is the most effective one, and allows to recover most passwords just in minutes. One small (but good) dictionary is included into AOPR distribution, and a few more ara available on our web site.
You can stop brute-force attack at any time, and restore it from the same point later.
Non-english passwords can be recovered with a brute-force attack, too -- use the "Custom charset..." option.
If you know the part of password (e.g. first few characters), you can use the "Brute-force with mask" attack to save your time.
If you run time-consuming brute-force attack, it is recommended to have "Save project every XX minutes" option enabled, so you will not loose your work even if system will become unstable.
You can increase "Progress update interval" option and select "High" priority to get better speed on brute-force and dictionary attacks.
