Rule: --Sid: 10010-- Summary: This event is generated when an attempt is made to exploit a known vulnerability in Putty.-- Impact: Serious. Execution of code by an unauthorized attacker is possible.--Detailed Information:Putty is vulnerable to a buffer overflow during the server key exchange initialization when performed as part of the server's "hello" packet. This vulnerability causes a null pointer dereference in the basic case and arbitrary code execution in a more sophisticated attack. The vulnerability is triggered by sending more than 20232 bytes as part of the key exchange.--Affected Systems:PuTTy versions 0.53 and prior--Attack Scenarios: An attacker would need to supply more than 20232 bytes to the client connecting to the server during the key exchange.-- Ease of Attack: Simple. Exploit code exists.-- False Positives:None known.--False Negatives:None known.-- Corrective Action: Apply the appropriate vendor supplied patches.--Contributors:Sourcefire Vulnerability Research TeamPatrick MullenNigel Houghton-- Additional References:--
