VPOPMAIL AND MAILDIRQUOTAS (updated 16/Jan/2004)* OVERVIEW As of version 5.1.1, vpopmail's quota system was changed to support the Maildir++ specification used by the Courier Mail Server and its standalone components (SqWebmail, Courier-IMAP, maildrop). The Maildir++ specification accounts for mail not only in the user's Maildir/new and Maildir/cur directories, but in maildirfolders as well. This is good news for people who use vpopmail along with any of the agents mentioned above, as ALL messages should be accounted for. See http://inter7.com/courierimap/README.maildirquota.html for details on the Maildir++ specification, maildirquotas, and maildirfolders. This was accomplished by integrating a lot of functions from vdeliverquota, a tool shipped with courier-imap (among others) to allow non-Maildir++ delivery agents to utilize maildirquotas.* BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE The new system is completely backwards compatible with your existing quota settings. The main difference you will see is that current usage information is now stored in Maildir/maildirsize rather than Maildir/.current_size.* CONFIGURATION QUOTAS Quota settings are still stored in vpopmail's authentication module. Just set them as you have in the past with vmoduser -q or vsetuserquota. But two different formats are now supported: Old vpopmail style: 1000000 or 1MB or 1000KB (1MB quota) maildirquota style: 1000000S or 1000000S,1000C (1MB quota, or 1MB Quota / 1000 Message Count limit, whichever comes first) While both styles will work with 5.1.1 and above, the maildirquota style will ONLY work with 5.1.1 and above. If you should downgrade your vpopmail installation to a version below 5.1.1, you'll need to make sure your quota settings are in the Old vpopmail style. QUOTA WARN MESSAGES You can have a quota warning delivered to a user when their message is delivered successfully, but they are now over 90 percent utilisation. Just edit quotawarn.msg and copy it to ~vpopmail/domains/.quotawarn.msg. When 90 percent utilisation or more is reached, this message is copied verbatim to their mailbox. To change the percentage to something other than 90, edit QUOTA_WARN_PERCENT in vdelivermail.c and recompile.* DOMAIN QUOTAS If you want to implement a quota for a whole domain, you have 2 options. You can either put the domain under a unique system id and implement system quotas, or (as of 5.3.18) you can use a non-system domain quota. To implement the former, just use 'vadddomain -u <system user> <domain>' and set the system quota for that user. To implement the latter, you must first compile vpopmail with "--enable-domainquotas=y". Then, you can add this to your .qmailadmin-limits file quota 50	maxmsgcount 1000 This would set a total domain quota of 50MB , and a maximum message count of 1000 messages for the entire domain. Modification of domain quotas should be done with the vmoddomlimits program. NOTE: Non-system domain quotas are only enforcable when vdelivermail is the local delivery agent. If you pipe your mail into anything else, like maildrop, then the non-system domain quota will be ignored. An alternative would be to install the domain under a unique system user (vadddomain -u) and set system quotas on that account.* CAVEATS MAILDROP If you use maildrop for filtering, compile it with maildirquota support if you want to use it with vpopmail 5.1.1 and above with quotas. POP SERVERS qmail-pop3d does not update maildirsize when you delete messages. Furthermore, when using aliases via .qmail files, qmail-local does not know about Maildir++, so messages delivered directly by qmail-local do not get added to the maildirsize file either. These problem should correct themselves within 15 minutes according to the Maildir++ specification, but this does not appear to be that reliable yet. The best available solution is to patch qmail with qmail-maildir++.patch, included in the contrib directory of the vpopmail source. It will add Maildir++ support to both qmail-pop3d and qmail-local.* CREDITS deliverquota was written by Sam Varshavchik <mrsam@courier-mta.com> deliverquota -> vpopmail integration by Bill Shupp <hostmaster@shupp.org>
