<a name="1204724"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">To support application I/O, <strong>st20sim</strong> installs a breakpoint trap handler and an inform mechanism into the target address space. This allows for the same I/O library to be used both on <strong>st20sim</strong> and on a silicon target.</font>

<a name="1204725"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><strong>st20sim</strong> installs the breakpoint trap handler and inform mechanism into a target memory segment called <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>TRAPHANDLER</strong></font> with memory segment type <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>DEBUG</strong></font>; see <em>Defining target characteristics</em> in the <em>ST20 Embedded Toolset User Manual</em>, chapter <em>Defining a target system</em>.</font>

<a name="1211006"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">If such a memory segment is not available then <strong>st20sim</strong> reports a warning, the trap handler and inform mechanism are not installed and target-to-host I/O is not serviced. As a result, a call to the C run-time function <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>exit()</strong></font> will not terminate the simulator (an implicit call to exit is inserted on the return from <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>main</strong></font>). Thus, <strong>st20sim</strong> simulates exactly like a boot from ROM application with no host access.</font>
