<a name="1204415"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The ST20 simulator <strong>st20sim</strong> provides a full register-level simulation of an ST20. It simulates the CPU, either the ST20C1 or ST20C2 core, and the memory system. It can generate a full trace and cycle time statistics.</font>

<a name="1211000"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The simulator has two different modes of operation.</font>

<p> <font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><li ><a name="1204417"> </a>It can be used in exactly the same way as a hardware target, using <strong>st20run</strong> to load the application and provide debugging facilities. The simulator must be set up as a target, as described in the <em>ST20 Embedded Toolset User Manual</em>, chapter <em>Interfacing to the target</em>. In this case, the application code must be in the form of a linked unit (<font size=2 face=Courier><strong>.lku</strong></font>) file produced by <strong>st20cc</strong>. <strong>st20run</strong> loads and runs the application code on the simulator.</font></p>
<p> <font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><li ><a name="1204421"> </a>It can be run as a stand-alone simulator. The application code must be in the form of a hex (<font size=2 face=Courier><strong>.hex</strong></font>) file produced by <strong>st20cc</strong>. The application code is given to the simulator as a command line argument.</font></p>

<a name="1204422"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">This chapter describes the simulator used as a stand-alone simulator. It describes how to use it to generate trace information and cycle statistics, and other facilities. Some of the facilities are also available through <strong>st20run</strong>. The command line options described in this chapter can be used when <strong>st20sim</strong> is run as a stand-alone simulator, or as the interface argument in the target definition command used by <strong>st20run</strong>.</font>
