<a name="1000948"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">A <strong>Variables Window</strong> is a child window of a <strong>Code Window</strong>. The <strong>Variables Window</strong> is opened from the <strong>Windows</strong> menu of a <strong>Code Window</strong>. Alternatively choosing to `<strong>Display</strong>' a variable's value on the <strong>Code Window</strong> opens a <strong>Variables Window</strong> if an appropriate one does not exist.</font>

<a name="1008263"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The <strong>Variables Window</strong> is used to monitor the values of variables defined in the application program, or of C expressions using application variables. The values of the expressions in the display can be updated as the application proceeds. The address of the selected variable or expression and its data context is shown in the <strong>Scope</strong> display. The data context of the variable is taken from the parent <strong>Code Window</strong> at the time of it being added to the <strong>Variables Window</strong>.</font>

<a name="1001936"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Clicking on an array or structure in the <strong>Variables</strong> display toggles between an expanded and shrunk display of the array or structure. Clicking on a value in the <strong>Values</strong> display opens a dialogue box to change the value.</font>

<a name="1015599"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The expressions are entered in the <strong>Add variable</strong> field; by selecting an expression in the <strong>Code Window</strong> and selecting the <strong>Code Window Display</strong> option; or by selecting a variable's symbol on the <strong>Symbols Window</strong> and selecting the <strong>Variable</strong> option. The values can be displayed in a range of formats. The values shown may be updated when an event occurs or held fixed, depending on the selection in the <strong>Options</strong> menu. </font>
