<a name="1206581"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">A target system needs to be described, including its memory size, core type and which diagnostic controller unit (DCU) it uses for debugging, before code can be built for it by <strong>st20cc</strong>, or loaded by <strong>st20run</strong>. This information is given to the tools as a command language procedure containing a series of command language commands. (The command language is described in the <em>ST20 Embedded Toolset Reference Manual</em>.)</font>

<a name="1206585"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Parts of the target descriptions are used by the compile/link tool <strong>st20cc</strong>, the application load/debug tool <strong>st20run</strong> and the simulator <strong>st20sim</strong>. To build the code, <strong>st20cc</strong> needs to know the type of target, in order to link in the correct libraries. It also needs to know where the memory is, in order to place the code and data space correctly. To run the application, <strong>st20run</strong> needs to know how to initialize the target hardware, how to load the code onto the target, how to interact with the running code, which DCU is used by the silicon, and where to find the code and data. When an application is run on a simulator, the simulator needs to know which core it is simulating and where the memory is.</font>
