The following sections contain notes on what is done by the installation program to set up the environment and the parallel port to aid in solving problems with the set up process.</font>

<a name="1210452"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">As part of the installation process a batch file called <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>st20.bat</strong></font> is created at the top-level of the release directory which sets up the environment to run the tools from a command prompt. The installation process also offers the option to update the environment in the system properties (Windows NT/2000 only).</font>

<a name="1210453"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Under Windows NT, if the user installing the toolset has system administrator privileges then the environment for all users (that is, the system environment) will be updated, instead of just the environment for the user installing the toolset.</font>

<a name="1210454"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">A menu called <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>STM Tools</strong></font> is also added to the <strong>Start</strong> button on the task bar that contains a number of shortcuts to various tools in the toolset, and a shortcut to a command prompt which is set up to run the <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>st20.bat</strong></font> batch file automatically when it is opened.</font>

<a name="1210457"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">To be able to use the tools, the <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>bin</strong></font> subdirectory of the installation directory must be on your path. For example, for the default installation directory on the C: drive:</font>

<a name="1216454"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">If ST Visual Develop is to be used exclusively to drive <strong>st20cc</strong> and <strong>st20run</strong>, it is not necessary to set the environment variable <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>ST20ROOT</strong></font>; see the chapter <em>Introduction</em> in the <em>ST20 Embedded Toolset User Manual</em>.</font>

<a name="1210475"> </a><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The file <font size=2 face=Courier><strong>st20.rc</strong></font> in the toolset installation directory contains some predefined commands for the toolset; it is read by some of the tools on start up.</font>
