To install Avida 2.0, drag the main folder entitled "Avida 2.0 beta 0" to your 
favorite location in your home directory:<P>

Warning:  using this early beta you will encounter bugs.  However, closely following 
these directions should get you up and running.<P>

1.	Avida should be launched from within a writable subdirectory containing at least 
the files "environment.cfg", "events.cfg", "genesis", "inst_set.default", and 
"organism.default":<P>

2.	After launching, Avida will present a "Setup Assistant".  For now, make sure that the 
radio button marked "Use existing world" is selected, then click the button labeled "Next":<P>

3.	The Setup Assistant will ask you to select a "World" configuration file, and "Work" 
directory in which Avida can store the data files that it generates:<P>

4.	Clicking the button labeled "Select world file" will let you choose a "world" configuration 
file.  We supply an example configuration file named "genesis".  Select the "genesis" file by 
clicking on it, then click the button labeled "Open":<P>

5.	The button "Select work directory" will let you choose a "world" directory in which Avida 
can store the data files that it generates.  We suggest using the directory "Avida 2.0 beta 0" 
containing the Avida application.  Select that directory by clicking on it, then click the button 
labeled "OK":<P>

6.	Avida is now ready to begin.  Click the button labeled "Finish" in the Setup Assistant:<P>

7.	Avida will present a "Map" window showing a single organism in the Avida world.  Select 
"Start Avida" from the "File" menu to start Avida:<P>

8.	The Avida world will be quickly populated as the original organism and its descendants replicate and experience 
mutation:<P>

9.	Avida can be paused by selecting "Pause Avida" from the "File" menu:<P>

10.	Various map modes can be selected using the "Map mode" popup menu, to show for example the fitnesses of organisms 
in the population:<P>

	Or the merits of organisms in the population:<P>

11.	Zoom in on an organism in the population using the zoom control and the scrollbars, then select an organism by 
clicking it:<P>

12.	To examine this organism in greater detail, select "Instruction Viewer" from the "Viewers" menu:<P>

	This presents the instructions comprising the genome of the organism:<P>

13.	Plot one of various population statistics against time by choosing "New Plot Viewer..." from the "Viewers" menu:<P>

	Then choose the statistic to plot, and click the button labeled "OK":<P>
