Requests for help withinstalling software beyond the base system should go to the blfs-supportlist.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN376">1.6.2. lfs-dev</A></H2><P>The lfs-dev mailing list discusses matters strictly related to theLFS-BOOK. If problems with the book come up, a bug or two need to bereported, or suggestions to improve the book should be made, this mailing list is the right one.</P><P>Requests for help should go to lfs-support or blfs-support.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN380">1.6.3. lfs-announce</A></H2><P>The lfs-announce list is a moderated list. It can be subscribed to, butyou can't post any messages to this list. This list is used to announcenew stable releases. The lfs-dev list will carry information aboutdevelopment releases as well. If a user is already on the lfs-dev list, there's little use subscribing tothis list as well because everything that is posted to the lfs-announcelist will be posted to the lfs-dev list as well.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN383">1.6.4. lfs-security</A></H2><P>The lfs-security mailing list discusses security-related matters. Security concerns or security problems with a package used by LFS,should be addressed on this list.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN386">1.6.5. lfs-book</A></H2><P>The lfs-book list is used by the LFS-BOOK editors to co-ordinatelfs-book's maintenance, like XML issues and the like. Actual discussionon what should be added and removed take place on lfs-dev.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN389">1.6.6. alfs-discuss</A></H2><P>The alfs-discuss list discusses the development of ALFS, which stands forAutomated Linux From Scratch. The goal of this project is to develop aninstallation tool that can install an LFS system automatically.Its main goal is to speed up compilation by taking away the need tomanually enter the commands to configure, compile, and install packages.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN392">1.6.7. blfs-dev</A></H2><P>The blfs-dev mailing list discusses matters related to theBLFS-BOOK (Beyond LFS).  If problems with the book come up, a bug or two need to bereported, or suggestions to improve the book (such as suggestions as toinstallation instructions to add) are to be made, this mailing list is the right one.</P><P>Requests for help with programs beyond the base LFS setup (notjust those in BLFS) should go to blfs-support.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN396">1.6.8. blfs-book</A></H2><P>The blfs-book list is used by the BLFS-BOOK editors to co-ordinate blfs-book's maintenance, like XML issues and the like. Actual discussion on what should be added and removed should take place on blfs-dev.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN399">1.6.9. blfs-support</A></H2><P>The blfs-support list deals with support requests for any softwarenot installed in the LFS book.  The list is not just for help withsoftware explicitly mentioned in the BLFS book, any software beyond thatinstalled as part of the base LFS system can be discussed here.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN402">1.6.10. How to subscribe?</A></H2><P>Any of the above-mentioned mailinglists can be subscribed to by sendingan email to <AHREF="mailto:listar@linuxfromscratch.org"TARGET="_top">listar@linuxfromscratch.org</A> and writing <EM>subscribe listname</EM> as the subject header of the message.</P><P>Multiple lists at the same time can be subscribed to by usingone email. This is done by leaving the subject blank and putting all thecommands in the body of the email. Afterthis confirmation email is sent back, Listar will send anemail again with the message that the user has been subscribed to thelist(s) along with an introduction message for that particular list.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN417">1.6.12. How to unsubscribe?</A></H2><P>To unsubscribe from a list, send an email to<AHREF="mailto:listar@linuxfromscratch.org"TARGET="_top">listar@linuxfromscratch.org</A> and write <EM>unsubscribelistname</EM> as the subject header of the message.</P><P>Multiple lists can be unsubscribed at the same timeusing one email. This is done by leaving the subject header blank andputting all the commands in the body of the email. After this confirmation email is sent back, Listar will send an email again with the message that the user has been unsubscribed from the list(s).</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN426">1.6.13. Other list modes</A></H2><P>The modes that can be set by a user require sending an email to<AHREF="mailto:listar@linuxfromscratch.org"TARGET="_top">listar@linuxfromscratch.org</A>. The modes themselves are set by writingthe appropriate commands in the subject header of the message.</P><P>As the name implies, the <EM>Set command</EM> tells whatto write to set a mode. The <EM>Unset command</EM> tellswhat to write to unset a mode.</P><P>The listname in the example subject headers should be replaced with the listname to which the mode is going to be applied to. If more than one mode is to be set (tothe same list or multiple lists) with one email, this can be done byleaving the subject header blank and writing all the commands in the body of the message instead.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN434">1.6.14. Digests</A></H2><PCLASS="literallayout"><br>Set&nbsp;command:&nbsp;<EM>set listname digest</EM><br>Unset&nbsp;command:&nbsp;<EM>unset listname digest</EM><br></P><P>All lists have the digest mode available which can be set after a userhas subscribed to a list. Being in digest mode willcause you to stop receiving individual messages as they are posted tothe list and instead receive one email a day containing allthe messages posted to the list during that day.</P><P>There is a second digest mode called digest2. When a user is set to thismode he will receive the daily digests but will also continue toreceive the individual messages to the lists as they are posted. Toset this mode, substitute <EM>digest</EM> for <EM>digest2</EM> in the command.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN443">1.6.15. Vacation</A></H2><PCLASS="literallayout"><br>Set&nbsp;command:&nbsp;<EM>set listname vacation</EM><br>Unset&nbsp;command:&nbsp;<EM>unset listname vacation</EM><br></P><P>If a user is going to be away for a while or wishes to stop receivingmessages from the lists but doesn't want to unsubscribe, he can changeto vacation mode.
