Installation of Lilo</A></H2><P>We have chosen Lilo because we feel comfortable with it, but you may wish to take a look elsewhere. Someone has written a hint on GRUB at <AHREF="http://hints.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/grub-howto.txt"TARGET="_top">http://hints.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/grub-howto.txt</A>, an alternative boot loader.</P><P>Install Lilo by running the following commands:</P><P><TABLEBORDER="0"BGCOLOR="#E0E0E0"WIDTH="100%"><TR><TD><FONTCOLOR="#000000"><PRECLASS="screen"><TTCLASS="userinput"><B>make &&make install</B></TT></PRE></FONT></TD></TR></TABLE></P><P>It appears that compilation of this package fails on certain machineswhen the -g compiler flag is being used. If you can't compile Lilo atall, you should try to remove the -g value from the CFLAGS variable in the<TTCLASS="filename">Makefile</TT> file.</P><P>At the end of the installation the make install process will print amessage stating that /sbin/lilo has to be executed to complete theupdate. Don't do this as it has no use. The /etc/lilo.conf isn't presentyet. We will complete the installation of lilo in chapter 8.</P><P>Maybe you'll be interested to know that someone wrote a hint on how to get a logo instead the the standard LILO prompt or menu. Take a look at it at <AHREF="http://hints.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/bootlogo.txt"TARGET="_top">http://hints.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/bootlogo.txt</A>.</P></DIV><DIVCLASS="sect2"><H2CLASS="sect2"><ANAME="AEN3056">6.37.2.
