Moldability

The purpose of this program is to identify the suitability of surfaces on a part for molding, given a mold pull plane direction.  The surfaces will be color coded to indicate each surface's suitability.

General Procedure:

By selecting a Reference Plane or Planar surface on the part, you have defined a mold pull plane direction normal to the plane.  For a simple two plate mold, ideally all the surfaces on the part would be either GREEN or BLUE.  These are surfaces oriented correctly given the specified pull direction and minimum draft angle.

Other colors mean that there are potential problems with the surface, or a more complex mold is needed.

NOTE: The accuracy of the analysis is controled by the Shaded Display Quality on the Performance tab of the Options dialog.

Direction 1  - The surface is ideal given the pull direction and minimum draft.

Marginal 1   - The surface is oriented correctly, but does NOT have enough draft.

Zero Draft   - The surface perpendicular to the pull direction, so it has NO draft.

Marginal 2   - The surface is oriented correctly, but does NOT have enough draft.

Direction 2  - The surface is ideal given the pull direction and minimum draft.

Both 1 and 2 - The surface is pointing in both directions 1 and 2.  Surface either needs                   to be split, or an other action is needed in the mold.
