The program is still in a betaversion, and will be until the version number hits 1.0. This programuses Urs Widmer's conversion tables. If you find any bugs in these,or better, if you would like to suggest additions and changes, pleasecontact Urs at the above address. 1 GB-2312 --> BIG-5 sinocogb.cod 2 GB-2312 --> IBM-555 sinocogb.cod 3 GB-2312 --> JIS (EUC) sinocogj.cod 4 BIG-5 --> GB-2312 sinocobg.cod 5 BIG-5 --> IBM-555 Calc 6 BIG-5 --> JIS (EUC) sinocobj.cod 7 JIS (EUC) --> GB-2312 sinocojg.cod 8 JIS (EUC) --> BIG-5 sinocojb.cod 9 IBM-555 --> BIG-5 calc10 IBM-555 --> GB-2312 sinocobg.codSINOCODEUSE sinocode -version Gives you the current version. sinocode -help Prints a short help. sinocode <coding1> infile <coding2> outfile Converts from one coding to another. Infile and outfile can be either a filename or "-", meaning stdin or stdout. The codings are "-jis", "-ibm", "-gb", and "-big".TRANSLATIONSThe sinocode program can perform the following conversions. 1 GB-2312 --> BIG-5 sinocogb.cod 2 GB-2312 --> IBM-555 sinocogb.cod 3 GB-2312 --> JIS (EUC) sinocogj.cod 4 BIG-5 --> GB-2312 sinocobg.cod 5 BIG-5 --> IBM-555 Calculation 6 BIG-5 --> JIS (EUC) sinocobj.cod 7 JIS (EUC) --> GB-2312 sinocojg.cod 8 JIS (EUC) --> BIG-5 sinocojb.cod 9 IBM-555 --> BIG-5 Calculation10 IBM-555 --> GB-2312 sinocobg.codMISSING CHARACTERSSometimes there are missing characters in the translation tables, andfor some chars there is nothing to translate to, ie the character ismissing in the code you are translating to, in these cases the programwill insert a "missing-character", either a default or one of you ownchoise.By the default the program will insert a "fat equal sign". If youwant to change this, you can set some environment varibles. Theenvvar "SINOMISSDEF" will change the default missing character for*all* translations. The envvars: "SINOJISEUC", "SINOBIG5","SINOGB2312", and "SINOIBM555", will change only for their targetcoding. So if you want to have a "black box" for all translationexcept JIS, where you want a "square box" you should set the env varsas:export SINOMISSDEF=black_boxexport SINOJISEUC=square_boxThe value of a envvar can either be one of the defined "characternames": "fat_equal", "black_box", or "square_box". Or it can be a twobyte character code.PLEASE NOTICE!!!The table for these names has not been completed right now!!! RELATED PROGRAMSIf you need to convert between different forms of JIS, you will findKen Lunde's program JIS.c very helpful.
