Effects & Tuning</font><font color="#0059B3"> </font><font color="#000000">>></font></font></strong></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="2"><strong>The BlackMagic palettes are optimized for optimal
colour reproduction in the category each of these represent. Each of the colours generated
by these palettes is further "auto parameterized" dynamically, when being
applied to the image, in terms of their hue, saturation, intensity, opacity, contrast, and
brightness. Even so, the professional version of the software allows for further tuning of
some parameters (post auto parameterization) by the user. This facility is provided
through the "Effects & Tuning" panel (below).</strong></font></p>

<p><font face="Arial" size="2">The Effects & Tuning panel provides controls to
fine-tune any of the colours/ palettes selected from the <a href="bmdoc34.html" target="_self">Colour/ Palette Selection pop-up Menu</a>. The Neural-net based palettes
accessed from the Colour/ Palette Selection Menu are pre-configured to generate life-like
rendering based on the TimeBrush RLC™ technology and the image content; still, there
can be times when you want to slightly modify the tones these palettes generate - say, may
be to make the Skin-tones a bit more or less red, etc. Controls on the "Effects &
Tuning" panel provide the mechanism for doing this. Each of the controls works by
'dragging' the corresponding Track-bar to the right of center (increase) or to the left of
center (decrease). Each of the five components may be varied individually; the net effect
of all subsequent renderings on the image is a combination of all the controls. Combined with
the Neural Net based TimeBrush RLC™ palettes, this allows for very
interesting colourization possibilities. </font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="2">Note that in some cases, the effect of varying the above
controls can be quite dramatic; so please use with caustion. Of course, the controls need
to be used in conjunction with a rendering tool selected from the <a href="bmdoc32.html">"Tools"
panel</a>, and in most cases, along with a palette selected from the Colour Selection
Menu.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="3" color="#800080"><strong>Gray</strong></font><font face="Arial" size="2"> varies the gray-scale of the original loaded image, allowing for
control of brightness in desired parts of the image.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="3" color="#800080"><strong>Red</strong></font><font face="Arial" size="2"> varies the red-channel component in the selected palette; if the
corresponding 'invert' check-box is checked, it reverses the channel value as well.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="3" color="#800080"><strong>Green</strong></font><font face="Arial" size="2"> varies the green-channel component in the selected palette; if the
corresponding 'invert' check-box is checked, it reverses the channel value as well.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="3" color="#800080"><strong>Blue</strong></font><font face="Arial" size="2"> varies the blue-channel component in the selected palette; if the
corresponding 'invert' check-box is checked, it reverses the channel value as well.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="3" color="#800080"><strong>Dominant</strong></font><font face="Arial" size="2"> varies one of the Red, Green, or Blue channels, whichever is the
dominant channel out of these, after computing the effect of all other controls.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="3" color="#800080"><strong>"Re-set all"</strong></font><font face="Arial" size="2"> RESETS all controls to their default state; this is also executed
whenever a new image is loaded.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="2">It should be noted that varying the gray as well as the RGB
channels above <u>does not</u> correspond to the traditional sense of varying these
values. Within the TimeBrush RLC palettes' context, the variations are applied based on a
non-linear Neural Net controlled function, which provides for more interesting effects. If
used in conjunction with one of the Neural Net palettes, the colours rendered after
applying above controls will demonstrate the 'depth' advantage typical of the TimeBrush
RLC palettes.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="2">For a better understanding of these controls, please
experiment with various combinations on a rough photo image that has sufficient gray-scale
variations.</font></p>
