Help for Sony Ericsson phones
=== Introduction
The following instructions are for Sony Ericsson phones. The options on your phone may vary slightly from these instructions depending on your phone/device. If so, consult your phone/device documentation for further information.
=== Hiding the client
1- Press and hold the BACK button while you're in Funambol
2- To put the application in background, select "Minimize" when prompted to exit the application. Funambol is fully operational while running in background (both for scheduled and "pushed" synchronization modes)
3- To bring the application to the foreground, select the application on the phone and choose "Maximize"
=== Internet access
When prompted to allow the application to send to the Internet, press "Yes". You can change the permissions about Internet access by following these steps:
1- Go to the "File Manager" from the main menu
2- Go to the "Applications" or "Games" directly where you've installed Funambol
3- Highlight Funambol and select "More", then "Permissions" and then "Internet access"
5- Select "Never Ask" to avoid being prompted several times
=== Contacts sync
Every time you start Funambol on your phone, your contacts and their email addresses on the server are automatically synchronized with your email client. They're available when you compose messages, eliminating the need to manually type in email addresses.
=== Push service
Available as an option for Funambol's commercial customers (e.g. Mobile Operators), when new messages arrive in your email account (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL), an SMS "Push" alert is sent to your phone. You will not see this SMS message in your phone's Messaging Inbox, however, the message triggers the following actions depending on whether the Funambol application is running or not:
- Application is not running - The push message automatically starts the Funambol email client. When this occurs, you may be prompted by your phone to allow the application to start, or to allow the application to access the Internet (see Internet access). Respond "Yes" to such prompts and the email client will start to download your new emails
- Application is running - The push message automatically starts to download your new emails whether Funambol is running in the foreground or in the background.
Note: by setting "Get Mail" to "Push service", TCP/IP will be used to push email message from the server to the application.
=== Scheduled sync
In addition to being able to manually press "Get Mail" to download your new messages, you may also set up the Funambol client to perform this operation regularly based on a pre-defined interval:
1- While in the inbox, select "Options", then "Settings", then "General"
2- In "Get mail:", select your desired interval for performing "Get Mail" (e.g. every 5 minutes, every 30 minutes, etc..)
Scheduled synchronization works whether the Funambol application is running in the foreground or in the background. It does not, however, work once you exit the application.
Note: if you exit the application by selecting Menu > Exit, you will be prompted to allow the application to connect at the scheduled time; if you answer "yes", the application will autostart when required. If, on the other hand, you exit the application by pressing the red key, you will not receive this alert.
=== Viewing attachments
If a message contains any attachments, you will see a paperclip icon next to the sender name; select "Attachments List" from the menu to see a list of the attached files.
If the content type is supported by your phone, select "Open" to view the attachment: you will be prompted to allow Funambol to launch your device's browser to display the attachment. Depending on your device's browser's capabilities, you may have the option of saving the attachment.
Exit the browser to return to Funambol.
=== Tips & tricks
- Use '*' to flag emails while in the inbox. If you're connected to an IMAP email account, the flag status of your emails will be exchanged between your email server and the Funambol email client at the next synchronization.
- Use '0' to delete emails while in the inbox.
- Deleting messages on the client will not delete message on the email server unless you do the following (please notice that some providers might block this funtionality):
1- While in the inbox, select "Options", then "Settings", then "General"
2- Set "Delete messages" to "Device & Server"
3- Press "Save" to store the updated configuration
- Search for a Contact: While looking at the contacts list, you may find specific contacts by spelling out their name or email address using T9-style typing on your phone's alphanumeric keypad (e.g. for "Andy", press 2639). To clear the search criteria and show all of your contacts, press 0 on your phone's keypad.
- Call Sender: While viewing a message, you may initiate a phone call to the sender of the email if the sender has a home, work or mobile phone number defined on the Funambol portal/server. To perform this operation, select "Call Sender" from the menu while viewing a message. If the user has more than one phone number, you'll be prompted to select which phone number you'd like to call.
Note: in order to use the call sender function and the open link function, you will need to exit the client.
