Building</H1><DIVCLASS="TOC"><DL><DT><B>Table of Contents</B></DT><DT><AHREF="config-tool-building.html#CONFIG-TOOL-SELECTING-BUILD-TOOLS">Selecting Build Tools</A></DT><DT><AHREF="config-tool-selecting-user-tools.html">Selecting User Tools</A></DT></DL></DIV><P>When you have configured <SPANCLASS="PRODUCTNAME">eCos</SPAN>, you may build the configuration.</P><P>On the <SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">Build</I></SPAN> menu, click:</P><P></P><UL><LI><P> <SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">Library</I></SPAN> (or click the Build Library icon on the toolbar) – thiscauses the <SPANCLASS="PRODUCTNAME">eCos</SPAN> configuration to be built. The result of a successfulbuild will be (among other things) a library against which usercode can be linked</P></LI><LI><P> <SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">Tests</I></SPAN> – this causes the <SPANCLASS="PRODUCTNAME">eCos</SPAN> configuration to be built, andadditionally builds the relevant test cases linked against the <SPANCLASS="PRODUCTNAME">eCos</SPAN> library</P></LI><LI><P> <SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">Clean</I></SPAN> – this removes all intermediate files, thus causing asubsequent build/library or build/tests operationto cause recompilation of all relevant files.</P></LI><LI><P> <SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">Stop</I></SPAN> – this causes a currently executing build (any of theabove steps) to be interrupted</P></LI></UL><P>Build options may be displayed by using the <SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">Build->Options</I></SPAN> menuitem. This displays a dialog box containing a drop-list controland two windows. The drop-list control allows you to select thetype of build option to be displayed (for example “LDFLAGS” arethe options applied at link-time. The left-hand window is a treeview of the packages loaded in the current configuration. The right-handwindow is a list of the build options that will be used for thecurrently selected package.</P><P>Note that this dialog box currently affords only read-onlyaccess to the build options. In order to change build options youmust edit the relevant string configuration item.</P><P>A single level of inheritance is supported: each package’sbuild options are combined with the global options (these are tobe found in the “Global build options” folderin the configuration view).</P><P><P><IMGSRC="pix/buildoptions.png"></P></P><DIVCLASS="SECT1"><H1CLASS="SECT1"><ANAME="CONFIG-TOOL-SELECTING-BUILD-TOOLS">Selecting Build Tools</H1><P>Normally the installation process will supply the informationrequired for the <SPANCLASS="PRODUCTNAME">eCos</SPAN><SPANCLASS="APPLICATION">Configuration Tool</SPAN> tolocate the build tools (compiler, linker, etc.) necessaryto perform a build. However if this information is not registered,or it is necessary to specify the location manually (for example,when a new toolchain installation has been made), select <SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">Tools</I></SPAN>-><SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">Paths</I></SPAN>-><SPANCLASS="emphasis"><ICLASS="EMPHASIS">BuildTools</I></SPAN>.
