be sure to ask the conference organizer if there will be anyspecial 
measures against ppl from SARS affected regions.

2) Search on WWW and try to find a less expensive one.
3) Or you can find cheaper ones after you arrived there (say motel, but be sur
e of the security issues)
4) Ask the conference organizer if any other attendee want to share a room.
5) Ask if the hotel has free pickup. Otherwise, ask how to get to the hotel fr
om the airport.

[Travel by air]
If you gonna travel a long time in the air, say, to USA, it is better to book 
the flight such that you arrive one day earlier. Most people will have a probl
em with the time zone difference.

You can also buy eye masks, air-filled pillow and ear plugs to help you sleep 
in the plane. A little wine after the supper could help too.

我们学校已经这样办了，其他学校应该也一样。
报销的手续可能各个学校不一样，
大概的流程是这样：
1) 用邀请信（复印件也可）及翻译稿申请批件，
2) 学校资助证明（兑换，从经费里出），
3) fervvac所说的流程，
4) 会议结束以后凭批件、发票、收据报销。

好象主要是前面的事情比较麻烦，
花费如果不超标，
后面的报销好象并不困难。
最好咨询一下你们学校专门办这些事情的部门
（我们学校是师资二科/出国服务中心办的）。

因私护照的申请比因公的护照的申请方便，
申请因私护照只需户口证明，
而申请因公护照需要批件，
所以现在申请护照和批件可以并行了。
另外，因私护照的使用期限稍微长一点。
