You can customize this process to allow the servlet to read persistent configuration data, initialize resources, and perform any other one-time activities by overriding the <code class="cCode">init</code> method of the <code class="cCode"><a href="http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/api/javax/servlet/Servlet.html" target="_blank">Servlet</a></code> interface.
