<HTML><TITLE>pppoem english</TITLE><BODY BGCOLOR="#F5DEB3" TEXT=#000000 LINK=#0000A0 VLINK=#800000><FONT SIZE=+1><CENTER><H2><BR>pppoem</H2>A throughput monitor</CENTER><BR><P>Pppoem monitors the DSL connection of a Linux kernel 2.4.4by reading the files <B>/proc/net/pppoe</B> and <B>/proc/net/dev</B> .It also may monitor other devices listed in /proc/net/devor receive its data samples via standard input from remotepeers started by ssh.</P><P>There is a X11 version 'xpppoem' and a text only version 'pppoem'.</P><P>xpppoem shows a graphics window like this :<BR><BR><IMG SRC="xpppoem.gif" width="224" height="94"><BR><BR>Its ancestors are xpppload, xisdnload and xload.<BR>The screenshot was made when pppoe was not very busy.</P><P>Both pppoem and xpppoem show text output like this:<BR><BR><IMG SRC="pppoem.gif" width="498" height=216"><BR><BR>Monitoring started 28 Oct 2001 18:48:09 when pppoe was offline.<BR>At 19:44:58 it went online until 19:52:45. Next was 20:22:20 until 20:40:11... and so on.In most cases the connection went offline because it was idle.
