[ The following may be useful as a starting point for those in need of
automatically converting old DiskSim parameter files into the new
format.  We have not used it in years so YMMV.  John Bucy, May, 2007 ]

Here are some scripts that do most of the legwork of converting old
DiskSim v2 setups to the libparam/disksim v3 format. 

If you want to convert a disksim v2 spec that *does not* use the
raw_layout patch, you want convert_diskspec_g1.pl (below); if it
*does* use the raw_layout patch, you want convert_diskspec_g2.pl.

This directory (disksim/utils/params) needs to be in your PATH if you
want to run the scripts in another directory.  Additionally,
convert_raw.pl uses the diskmodel "layout_g3_tools" so
diskmodel/layout_g3_tools needs to be in your path as well.

e.g. if you checked out the disksim suite using the pdl_setup script in ~/src

export PATH=$PATH:~/src/disksim/diskmodel/layout_g3_tools:~/src/disksim/utils/params

gen_parv.pl: generate a generic disksim parameter file for a disk by
substituting parameters into a template. STDIN is the template
(e.g. parv.template), STDOUT is the new parv file.

e.g. 
gen_parv.pl foo.diskspecs < parv.template > foo.parv

will generate foo.parv from parv.template and the disk parameters in
foo.diskspecs.


convert_diskspec_g1.pl: wrapper for convert-diskspec.pl and
convert_diskspec (below) -- converts from a v2 diskspec to a v3
diskspec and model.

e.g. 
convert_diskspec_g1.pl ../source/cheetah-godfather.diskspecs \
  cheetah9LP.diskspecs cheetah9LP.model SEAGATE_ST9LP

will read cheetah-godfather.diskspecs (disksim v2 format) and output
cheetah9LP.diskspecs (disksim v3/libparam) and cheetah9LP.model
(diskmodel/libparam).  The disksim_disk in cheetah9LP.diskspecs will
be named SEAGATE_ST9LP and the dm_disk in cheetah9LP.model will be
named SEAGATE_ST9LP_model.


convert_diskspec_g2.pl: wrapper above along with g2 analysis, etc, to
generate a g2 model and v3 diskspec from a v2/raw layout diskspec.
The diskmodel/layout_g3_tools directory must be in $PATH for this
to work.

e.g. 
convert_diskspec_g2.pl ../source/k3.diskspecs ../source/k3.layout.mappings\
   QUANTUM_ATLAS10K3_36_SC_34421544649 atlas-k3.diskspecs atlas-k3.model

will read k3.diskspecs (disksim v2, raw_layout) and k3.layout.mappings
(list of all LBN-to-PBN mappings, output by dixtrac/dx_layout) and
output atkas-k3.diskspecs and atlas-k3.model as above.



disksim_v2_to_libparam.pl: syntactically transform a v2 diskspec into
libparam-format (STDIN to STDOUT)

libparam_to_v3: uses libparam to convert a "v2 diskspec in libparam
format" into a v3 diskspec and g1 model.
