The CD-ROM included with this book contains several hundred megabytes of software.

As you would expect, the latest version of Slackware Linux is provided, as is a whole

library of add-on software for your Linux system. Here's a quick rundown of the directories

on the CD-ROM, and what they contain:

/docs: Contains the Linux Documentation Project (LDP) HOWTO

files and some additional documents about installing and configuring Linux components.

Most of these files are in ASCII format. The HOWTO files contain all the

current LDP releases, including hardware information, XFree86 installation and configuration

files, and explanations of many of the modules found elsewhere on the CD-ROM.

/lone-tar: Contains the excellent Lone-Tar backup program from Lone

Star Software that is explained in Chapter 67, "Cactus/Lone Star Utilities."

This software is configured for a one-year free evaluation. After one year, you will

need to contact Lone Star Software to purchase a copy of Lone-Tar.

/source: Contains many of the programs and code listings from this book,

as well as some examples from other Linux sources.

/bootdsks.144: Contains Linux boot images for 1.44MB (3'-inch) floppies.

See the installation chapters for more information on using these files.

/bootdsks.12: Contains Linux boot images for 1.2MB (5[dieresis]-inch)

floppies. See the installation chapters for more information on using these files.

/install: Contains DOS utilities for creating the boot and root floppies.

/slakware: Contains the software for Slackware Linux, organized by disk

set. The Slackware installation procedure uses these disk sets to install Linux on

	your system.

Most of the utilities and programs mentioned in this book are included on this

CD-ROM. If they are not, a reference to a Web site or an FTP location is usually

provided in the body of the reference. If a reference is missing, up-to-date information

can almost always be obtained from one of the Linux Web sites.
