You can reach me at rick_price@users.sourceforge.net.</para><para>I've worked with computers since 1981, mostly in software but also in hardware. I can program in most languages, but really I'm best at C++, C and assembler. My experience tends towards workflow, financial software and databases, but I have done other things.</para><para>I believe that good interface design is paramount and I really enjoy making the most of the hardware that I'm programming on, I heartily agree with XP development, and keeping it simple. I also heartily agree with Palm's "The Zen of Palm Programming", a must read for programmers, now you can know why you hate software package X.</para><para>I love my family, and enjoy spending time with them, I also enjoy giving back to the community by helping out with computer related things.</para><para>Comments are always appreciated. </para></sect1><sect1><title>My Personal Philosophy</title><para>This is my philosophy, if you disagree, that's okay, but please don't be offended.</para><para>I believe a person needs to be *Balanced* to be effective in life. For me, that means you have to purposely aim to be balanced in at least 4 areas:</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>Mentally (Learn new things, be positive, don't eat mental or visual junk food).</para></listitem><listitem><para>Physically (Keep yourself in shape, eat healthy foods).</para></listitem><listitem><para>Emotionally (Have healthy relationships, be patient, and turn the other cheek - but not get walked on).</para></listitem><listitem><para>Spiritually (Have a healthy relationship with your creator).</para></listitem></orderedlist><para>I believe it is a very good thing to give back to your community, and to the world. Although we all need to make a living, it's nice to make the world a better place for others. Giving to the world does not have to include money. I think that you should give to others out of what you have been blessed with. I am very good at computers, so I give that to others. If you like the work I have done for you, please go and do likewise, with what _you_ have been blessed with.</para></sect1><sect1><title>Who the developers are / Credits</title><itemizedlist><listitem><para>Laurent Burgbacher (www.alawa.ch) created this wonderful program.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Seagull Kamome has added important features.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Scott Davis has added insightful bug fixes.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Judd Rogers has helped with development.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Gasolin Kimo has sent in colour icons.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Rick Price is the current maintainer.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Many people from the progect-dev and progect mailing lists on Yahoo Groups have contributed.</para></listitem><listitem><para>If you have contributed to Progect and want to be listed here, please email me, and my apologies for missing you.</para></listitem></sect1><sect1><title>My Project Philosophy</title><para>In keeping with my personal philosophy I want this project to be balanced. This is a point form list that shows the general direction I'm going.</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>I want this project to be balanced as a whole</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>Documentation - Excellent documentation, showing how people use the software, as well as how it works.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Speed - I want Progect to be very efficient and fast.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Reliability - No crashes, ever. I don't want our project to cause problems for other software or people.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Communication with user base - This project is alive, I would like the user base to know what's happening.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Small memory footprint - I don't want to waste valuable resources.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Small resource usage - Again, I don't want to waste valuable resources, like your battery :).</para></listitem><listitem><para>Driven by needs of community - This project is alive, it should be driven by the community.<listitem><para></listitem><listitem><para>Stability</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>If you can't use it to do work, why use it?</para></listitem></orderedlist></listitem><listitem><para>Stay current</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>I believe that support for newer platforms should be done as soon as reasonably possible. But given that this is a volunteer effort, it may have to wait for other things the community as a whole wants more.</para></listitem><listitem><para>You bought that new PDA, and you want to use all the new features right?</para></listitem><listitem><para>I also believe in supporting the existing base of Palm Devices, so support for them should be kept as long as reasonably possible. Unfortunately that's not forever, and we currently draw the line with PalmOS 3.5.</para></listitem></orderedlist></sect1><sect1><title>What my vision for the project is</title><para>I want Progect to be an excellent project, an example of what people can do with "Open Source" software. I also want to see it used, so the more people who use it, the happier I'll be. I'm doing this to benefit the world, so the more people it's benefiting, the better my time is being used. Software development is very hard, and takes a lot of time, so it's very important to me that a lot of people use it, so I can see that my time is being spent effectively.</para><para>Progect is a Project Manager/Planner, so features that enhance that are things I hope to see in the project. Progect should be simple and obvious to use, and _useful_. It should support within reason the tasks you want to do with it. It should interoperate with other programs that are within our scope (for example PDesk, XML). This is Open Source Software; it should play nicely with other software, one thing that a lot of proprietary programs fail at - this is a bigger reason than money to use Open Source Software.</para></sect1><sect1><title>What you can do</title><orderedlist><listitem><para>Documentation</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>We need to know how people use Progect, so we can help others do likewise, and so we know what usage patterns are most important. Please submit what information you can about this.</para></listitem><listitem><para>FAQ's, HowTo's and so on are always appreciated.</para></listitem></orderedlist><listitem><para>Nationalization</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>Translations, Progect should be fairly easy to translate, if you can help with this, please contact us.</para></listitem><listitem><para>It would be nice to have our documentation in the native language of those who use the software.</para></listitem></orderedlist></listitem><listitem><para>Development</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>If you maintain a program or other piece of software that is compatible with Progect, please contact us so we can make others aware of your project.</para></listitem><listitem><para>We can always use more help developing Progect - (Make a name for yourself with the Premiere Palm Planner ;) ).</para></listitem></listitem></orderedlist><listitem><para>Community</para><orderedlist><listitem><para>Join the mailing list (progect, progect-dev) on Yahoo Groups (groups.yahoo.com), and help others use the software.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Tell all your friends about us.. You can beam the application from one Palm type device to another.</para></listitem><listitem><para>Tell us what we are doing wrong, and how we can improve the project. You can use the mailing list, but it may be preferable to log Bugs or RFEs (request for enhancements) on SourceForge "Progect Manager" (www.sourceforge.net). The more detail the better, one sentence entries don't really help us. Remember, we may not have your device, or know much about it.</para></listitem></orderedlist></orderedlist></sect1></article></book>
