Electronic resources are the best, if not often theonly, way stay informed of the latest advances. Since FreeBSD is a volunteer effort, theuser community itself also generally serves as a ``technical support department'' ofsorts, with electronic mail and USENET news being the most effective way of reaching thatcommunity.</p><p>The most important points of contact with the FreeBSD user community are outlinedbelow. If you are aware of other resources not mentioned here, please send them to the <ahref="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-doc" target="_top">FreeBSDdocumentation project mailing list</a> so that they may also be included.</p><div class="SECT1"><h1 class="SECT1"><a id="ERESOURCES-MAIL" name="ERESOURCES-MAIL">C.1 MailingLists</a></h1><p>Though many of the FreeBSD development members read USENET, we cannot always guaranteethat we will get to your questions in a timely fashion (or at all) if you post them onlyto one of the <var class="LITERAL">comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.*</var> groups. By addressingyour questions to the appropriate mailing list you will reach both us and a concentratedFreeBSD audience, invariably assuring a better (or at least faster) response.</p><p>The charters for the various lists are given at the bottom of this document. <spanclass="emphasis"><i class="EMPHASIS">Please read the charter before joining or sendingmail to any list</i></span>. Most of our list subscribers now receive many hundreds ofFreeBSD related messages every day, and by setting down charters and rules for proper usewe are striving to keep the signal-to-noise ratio of the lists high. To do less would seethe mailing lists ultimately fail as an effective communications medium for theproject.</p><p>Archives are kept for all of the mailing lists and can be searched using the <ahref="../../../../search/index.html" target="_top">FreeBSD World Wide Web server</a>. Thekeyword searchable archive offers an excellent way of finding answers to frequently askedquestions and should be consulted before posting a question.</p><div class="SECT2"><h2 class="SECT2"><a id="ERESOURCES-SUMMARY" name="ERESOURCES-SUMMARY">C.1.1 ListSummary</a></h2><p><span class="emphasis"><i class="EMPHASIS">General lists:</i></span> The following aregeneral lists which anyone is free (and encouraged) to join:</p><div class="INFORMALTABLE"><a id="AEN41910" name="AEN41910"></a><table border="0" frame="void" class="CALSTABLE"><col /><col /><thead><tr><th>List</th><th>Purpose</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/cvs-all"target="_top">cvs-all</a></td><td>Changes made to the FreeBSD source tree</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-advocacy"target="_top">freebsd-advocacy</a></td><td>FreeBSD Evangelism</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-announce"target="_top">freebsd-announce</a></td><td>Important events and project milestones</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-arch"target="_top">freebsd-arch</a></td><td>Architecture and design discussions</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-bugbusters"target="_top">freebsd-bugbusters</a></td><td>Discussions pertaining to the maintenance of the FreeBSD problem report database andrelated tools</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-bugs"target="_top">freebsd-bugs</a></td><td>Bug reports</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-chat"target="_top">freebsd-chat</a></td><td>Non-technical items related to the FreeBSD community</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-config"target="_top">freebsd-config</a></td><td>Development of FreeBSD installation and configuration tools</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-current"target="_top">freebsd-current</a></td><td>Discussion concerning the use of FreeBSD-CURRENT</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-isp"target="_top">freebsd-isp</a></td><td>Issues for Internet Service Providers using FreeBSD</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-jobs"target="_top">freebsd-jobs</a></td><td>FreeBSD employment and consulting opportunities</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-newbies"target="_top">freebsd-newbies</a></td><td>New FreeBSD users activities and discussions</td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-policy"target="_top">freebsd-policy</a></td><td>FreeBSD Core team policy decisions.
