<H3>Main Player Kit</H3>
<P>The "main kit" consists of the rev 2.0 PCB with the surface-mount =
silicon=20
devices already soldered down to it (such as the AVR, the Cypress USB =
2.0 chip,=20
the MP3 codec, etc) and a set of parts (in 3 bags) for the remaining =
components.=20
This kit contains all of the components shown in the <A=20
href=3D"http://www.frankvh.com/mp3player/schematics.htm">schematics</A> =
except for=20
the LED (everyone wants a different colour &amp; size, so you can obtain =
your=20
own). </P>
<P>The serial eeprom for the USB interface is provided pre-programmed; =
you do=20
not have to program this device yourself. The kit also contains =
connectors (both=20
male and female halves) for the LED and for the IR receiver (provided) =
to enable=20
you to easily cable them to the board. It contains all connectors and =
the=20
fuse.</P>
<P>The AVR is not pre-programmed. I don't have the facilities to do =
that. You=20
will need to program the AVR yourself once you've powered-up your =
completed kit,=20
as described <A =
href=3D"http://www.frankvh.com/mp3player/avrprog.htm">here</A>.=20
</P>
<P>This kit does not contain any cables or mounting hardware for the =
disk drive,=20
as some folks use 3.5" drives and others use 2.5" drives. Although it =
does=20
contain both the 40 &amp; 44-pin IDE connectors that solder into the =
PCB. </P>
<P>The cost of this kit is US$110.</P>
<P>&nbsp;</P>
<H3>3.5" Drive Mounting &amp; Connector Kit</H3>
<P>This small bag of parts contains:</P>
<UL>
  <LI>a short 40-pin IDE cable for connecting the IDE bus from the =
player to the=20
  3.5" diskdrive;=20
  <LI>a harddisk power connector on some short wires for providing power =
to the=20
  drive from the player (via J2);=20
  <LI>8 threaded standoffs and 4 screws for mounting the PCB on top of =
the=20
  drive. The standoffs screw directly into the mounting holes on the =
diskdrive=20
  casing. </LI></UL>
<P>(Why 8 standoffs? To allow for easily mounting a metal shield between =
the=20
player and the drive.)</P>
<P>The cost of this kit is US$16.</P>
<P>&nbsp;</P>
<H3>2.5" Mounting &amp; Connector Kit</H3>
<P>Currently I have no plans for this. The PCB is designed to mount =
directly=20
onto a 3.5" drive; I think you'd need to come up with a different scheme =
to=20
attach a 2.5" drive. Cable-wise the only thing required is the 44-pin =
2mm cable;=20
this cable combines both the IDE bus and power. I don't have a 2.5" =
drive so I=20
haven't tested this out, nor do I currently know where to obtain =
suitable=20
cables. If you need such a cable let me know and I'll see what I can =
do.</P>
<P>&nbsp;</P>
<H3>What Do You Provide Yourself?</H3>
<P>A few things:</P>

  <LI>A LED. This way you get to choose the colour, size, etc.=20

  power supply</A>. It must be capable of providing 12.5 to 16 volts DC =
at 2=20
  amps.=20
  <LI>A hard-disk drive.=20
  <LI>An LCD display (from <A=20

tore/mp3_display.html</A>).=20
  Either with or without backlighting will work. If you can't decide =
then get=20
  the <A href=3D"http://www.pjrc.com/store/tman_lcd.html">backlit =
one</A>; it=20
  looks better in my opinion. (Sorry I <EM>cannot</EM> provide the LCD =
display;=20
  you need to get it from pjrc.)=20
  <LI>A simple flat metal shield mounted between the drive and the PCB. =
You can=20
  make it out of anything metallic; it's just a small flat piece of =
metal.=20
  <LI>A box to mount it all in. </LI></UL>
