switched to autoconf to ease build process

massive improvements to install script, primarily making it
interactive instead of requiring users to edit it directly,
and adding a -test mode so I can test it as non-root (also fixed
the Solaris problems)

verified can build with GMP 3.1, which is now the recommended
version since it's faster than 2.0.2

make check is less verbose now, and the "./" bugs are fixed

cleaned up some of the idiotic compiler warnings

1.42  worked on it 8/01/00 but never released

merged the patches on the website:
  - fake server ip
  - bind to specific interfaces
  - pacify gcc 2.95.2
  - fix for ^D bug in sftpc
  - -8 switch
  - "bye" alias for "quit"

merged Dan's interface changes related to integrity-only, but still
haven't implemented it
