Philips themselves make the I.Code chip which is used by inlay manufacturers to produce the functional part (the chip and antenna on a substrate) of a "smart label". This inlay is then incorporated by label manufacturers to produced the finished smartlabel product. There are a number of inlay manufacturers and a higher number of label manufacturers. These produce labels using different materials, adhesives and coatings that are suited to different application needs.<p>Beyond the labels, there are also an increasing number of companies manufacturing read/write equipment for these smartlabels. The reader functionality you need will again depend on your intended application and may include either portable or fixed units or both.<p>We at Emergent are a specialist independent consulting firm addressing the whole area of automatic identification (including radio tagging), automatic data capture, handheld and mobile computing and wireless data communications.
