The technical data are: Inductive coupling, data-downlink and power-supply: 27.115 MHz, data-uplink: 4.24 MHz, Reading distance: 0.45 m. This seems to be very similar to what you are looking for.
>1.- I have come to the conclussion that no chipset is available for these frequencies, and actual ones are quite specific-purpose, and thus unavailable for a system like mine.
>2.- I wonder it such a transponder and reader can be reasonabily prototyped using discrete or general purpose integrated components. Transponder functionality includes HF interface, supply extractor, demodulator, FSK modulator and transmit 'power' amplifier.
The 2nd German eddition of the RFID-Handbook describes in chapter 10 the RF-interface of an ISO 14443-compatible transponder, used to test reader equipments (not yet availible in the current English eddition, but have also a look onto page 40). This RF-interface is designed, using 74HC00-series circuits and a few discrete components (diodes, R, C, L) only. Circuit and layout-data are also provided for download at my homepage:
http://www.rfid-handbook.de/service/layouts.html
Please use the analog part (upper half of the circuit) to receive power and data. You just have to change the values of L1 and CV1 to tune the transponder to 27 MHz. The digital part of the ransponder (U2, U3, U4) is used to generate load modulation an need not to be implemented for your application. Just use U1 (or any 74HCxx-divider) to divide the 27 MHz-signal by 6. The resulting 4.5 MHz signal should be used to supply a second LC-circuit (tuned to 4.5 MHz). To send back any data, use an AND-gate to modulate (key on-off) the 4.5 MHz signal.
With best regards,
Klaus Finkenzeller

http://www.rfid-handbook.de/service/layouts.html

<input type=hidden name="body" value=">Dear Mr. Brugarolas,>>I am studying a project involving RFID technology: a magnetic transponder system which includes bidirectional full duplex data transmission at 27 and 4 MHz and ranges close to 0.5 meter.>>I have purchased the Finkenzeller's book 'RFID handbook' and have searched the Net for chip manufacturers reference.>Chapter 13.5 of the RFID-Handbook describes the Eurobalise-S21, a transponder system for raylway control applications.
