TACAN (TACtical Air Navigation, MIL) and DME (Distance Measurement Equipment, civil) runs in the <br>opposite way: a transmitter in the airplane transmit a ( coded) pulse, which is <br>received at the ground beacon station. This retransmit this pulse back to the <br>airplane.
