use and line editing (Unix console){p_end}

{title:Description}

{pstd}
Some key combinations have a special meaning to Stata. {hi:Break}, for
instance, tells Stata to stop what it is doing and return control to the
keyboard. On most Unix computers, {hi:Break} is obtained by holding down
{hi:Ctrl} and pressing {hi:C}.

{pstd}
Other key combinations are used to provide a shorthand alternative to
typing certain commands and to edit previous lines. These are described in
{hi:[U] 10 Keyboard use}. Since Stata is supported on many computers and
keyboards have slight differences across computers, we have made up new names
for Stata's editing keys. They have names like {hi:Rgt}, {hi:Lft},
{hi:PrevLine}, etc. -- names which do not appear on your keyboard. The
diagram below shows the location of these keys.  See {hi:[U] 10 Keyboard use}
for a description of what they do.
