Welcome to HardCopy Pro, the professional, easy to use screen 
capture utility for Windows 9x, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP! It can 
capture rectangular screen areas and whole windows. The captured 
images can be cropped very easily and the color depth can be 
changed to any desired value from monochrome to true color. 
Images can be printed, saved, copied to the clipboard, emailed, 
edited with any image editing program, etc. Many options allow the 
customization of all these actions to individual user needs.

All information about how to use this program can be found in the
online manual, which is accessible by pressing the F1 key, or
selecting it from the HardCopy program group.

Installation and uninstallation:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
To install HardCopy Pro, simply run HCSetup.exe. The Setup program 
will guide you through all necessary steps. If you want to remove 
HardCopy Pro from your computer, select "Uninstall" from the 
HardCopy Pro program group or use "Add/Remove Software" in the 
Windows Control Panel.

If you are upgrading HardCopy Pro from a previous version, please 
uninstall the old version before installing the new one. Due to 
some changes of the way the options are saved, you will need to 
adjust the options after installing new version.

Unattended installation:
To install HardCopy Pro without any user intervention, simply start
the setup program with the setup path as a parameter. Example:
HCSetup C:\Program Files\HardCopy Pro
To preset options and registration info, please copy the HardCopy
INI file to the same directory as the setup program. Further 
information can be found in the online help (accessible by pressing 
F1).

LZW compression for GIF files:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
By default, LZW compression for GIF and TIF files is not supported
by HardCopy Pro, because Unisys holds the patent for the LZW 
compression in several countries and they demand expensive royalty 
payments. Therefore, HardCopy Pro only supports LZW compression in 
countries where Unisys doesn't hold the patent. It's NOT allowed to 
use it in the following countries: USA, Canada, France, Germany, 
Italy and the UK. In all other countries where the patent is not 
valid, you can enable and use the LZW compression by downloading a 
small patch from our website.

Because of Unisys' restrictive policies, we recommend to avoid the 
GIF file format and use PNG instead. This new format is supported 
by all modern web browsers, offers better compression, greater 
flexibility, etc.
