Having a tool with multiple paradigms has its obvious advantages. For example, you can "link" the results from one to another, enabling you to benefit from two technologies rather than a stand-alone solution. For example, Clementine from SPSS enables you to do cluster analysis using a Kohonen network, then link the segments to a C5.0 machine-learning algorithm for the generation of rules describing the attributes of those clusters. Another tool, Decisionhouse, enables you to use a machine-learning algorithm to segment your data set in a decision tree, and then view the market segment it discovered via a geographic map, for the entire United States down to the ZIP code level. Simply incorporating an algorithm in a package does not mean it is a very effective business tool. In order for a tool to truly be effective it must be scalable and robust software able to handle large data sets in a client server environment and deliver business solutions in a format that can be deployed over the enterprise.
